What the hell are those sites?

I was checking the backlinks to one of EZA's most successful articles (RIGHT on Google Spot 1 for a very competitive, very marketable keyword, over one hundred thousand views in less than one year) and it had 200 backlinks. A good 100 of the backlinks came from sites such as

virginiabetts.com
trepnetwork.com
afoolsfate.com
solitaire007.com
kralenbusiness.com

All of those sites have thousands of posts with one anchor link to some product or article per post. The posts themselves are absolutely stupid and look like excerpts from something that happen to contain the keywords.

There are 50 sites like this, some of them banned from Google I believe.

    If the owner of all those sites (close to 50, and that's just the ones that backlink to the EZA article I talked about), along with the sites he/she links to is the same, I think he must be making millions.

    Does Google Trends rely on how many blogs posted on something? If so, that's an interesting tactic.
