You could grab attention, but it could backfire pretty spectacularly.

The biggest problem that I see is this, "The game isn't anything amazing by any means."

Your best bet is letting it speak for itself. You could do it humorously, but you would have to make it VERY VERY VERY clear your intending to be funny. Last thing you want is someone taking you seriously and then never wanting to purchase something from you every again because they feel deceived.

No offense or anything at all, it just seems like you want to be deceptive and use humor as a fall in case it somehow backfires (absolutely don't do that!)

I think the method your intending to plan would work well if say you were the guy that made Flappy Bird or whatever, hit it big, then became comedic when approached. At the same time, I don't know your situation though, either way seems like a high risk/low reward situation.

If you don't even think your own game is amazing, what makes you think anyone else would?

I think you should work towards creating a great app to start rather than falsifying claims for a game that "isn't amazing by any means"!

The whole point of a press release is that it relays factual information. It isn't supposed to be entertaining.

Here's a clue for you. Another name for "Press Release" is "News Release". Note the word NEWS, not bogus publicity stunt for a nothing-too-amazing game launch.

About the only place I'd expect such a release to be published is on the scraper blogs that pick up anything on the release site's feed, and very few of those ever see a human eyeball.

Your idea about claiming "it took 5 developers, 7 designers and 8 million dollars to develop" is the same kind of bogus crap that gets so many affiliates in trouble.

How would you react to something like:

"I deliberately ruined my health so I could test these assorted Clickbank ebooks and try to sell the one with the highest commission to you by lying to you" (Oops, the truth slipped in there...)

"I've personally tested over two dozen high end TVs just so I could give you honest reviews."

If your game really is nothing special, claiming "it took 5 developers, 7 designers and 8 million dollars to develop" would make me doubt either your veracity or your intelligence, having burned through that kind of asset to come up with just another mediocre product.

If you try this and it blows up on you, claiming it was meant as humor isn't going to save you. It will just confirm what those doubters thought of your intelligence.

Well you could do it stating what the game is not , like " This game is NOT amazing by any means!" That would draw attention and it`s funny too

If you want to be a legit business, don't use a fake press release. A real one is just as hard to write and probably worth more long term.

No need to try to be humorous or exaggerate. The people you want to visit your offer will be very entertained by your 'boring' press release. Believe me, if it's reaching your target market, they will slide to the edge of their seat to hear the news!

Don't do it just for the sake of it. If you think it's bogus, why bother publishing it? It's a promotional tool after all.
