Yes it does, linking from your lens to your site.. could help you boost some ranking.. And you do have to put tons of quality content in there.. or your lens will suffer and your effort that you put into building your lens will be worthless.

You don't have to keep adding to a lens, but if you do freshen it up from time to time (even just moving things around is enough) it will rank better.

Your first lens will take a while because you're working out how to do it. After that it's much quicker - you take an article, break it into 2-4 sections and plug it into text modules, then add some pictures, an RSS feed, one or two attention-getter modules like the post-it note or the big black box, add tags, and you're done. Make sure you include good, keyword-relevant titles for every module and subtitles where you can.

My best lens gets around 1000 views per week, and drives traffic to one of my money sites. That's unusual - most of my lenses run around 20 visits a week - but even without a lot of traffic they are great to give relevant, do-follow backlinks to your sites.

I have a template I use for most of my Lenses. It's:

            Text / Write Module
            Text / Write Module
            Text / Write Module
            Wikipedia
            YouTube
            Amazon
            GuestBook
            Link List

You won't need ALL of them for every Lens, but for most things you'll find it's a good starting setup.

              hi,

              thanks for that, so its:

Text / Write Module - my article
Text / Write Module - my article
Text / Write Module - my article
Wikipedia - what would you have here?
              YouTube - fave videos?
              Amazon - fave books etc?
GuestBook - guests who view the lens page & leave comments?
Link List - our links? or links we provide to other sources for info on something?

Wikis are good for informative type niches where they may not be anything particular to sell and putting in Text modules would take forever and make the page a huge scroller. It saves space.

YouTube is easy, just find some videos that match your subject. Do them individually if you have to.

Amazon is the same thing. Find books on the niche your Lens is in. Like if its about Doyle Brunson find and list the poker books he's written.

The Guestbook I put on there so it's not 100% uninteractive. And I can see how I'm doing from time to time by the comments.

The Link List is usually going to be an affiliate link or a link to your other sites on the network.

thank you all very much this makes it clearer about the squidoo lens so lets see what happens!

by the way can we put adsense or other ads in the lens itself?

                      Thank for these tips

Can you also tell us how much promotion we have to do for the squidoo lens.

Do we have to build links like we would for our own sites

Thank you very much in advance

No, the Lenses don't allow for javascript code, which is what Adsense is.

And it'll need some promotion like any other site. Squidoo's PR is a nice start up boost, but you'll needed some links pointing to it to rank well for stuff.

Well...a lot of those Lenses have Adsense on them, so we better call the Adsense Police and put a stop to that nonsense.

The adsense ads come directly from Squidoo. You don't put them on there yourself. You get a share of the revenue from them.

Look in the list of possible modules (under "Add Modules") while you're building your lens, and you'll see a tab labeled "Add Unique Content". There are some modules in that list (black box, talk bubble, sticky note particularly) that let you enter a small amount of text that's displayed in a very attention-getting way. I use them to break up the text and draw attention to links or anything else I want my readers to be sure to read.

Once you get used to it building a Squidoo lens is the easiest thing to do. You just decide what "modules" you want to have then decide what order you want them to be. The only real work is when you type content for your text. The other modules are quiet easy. You can finish one from scratch in less than two hours.

Lenses aren't too complicated, you mainly want to make sure you set it up properly for your target key words. That will be important in how well you rank. Try to get your target keyword in the URL if possible, and also when it asks for the best keyword for your site, and top 3, put your target keyword in both the best spot and in one of the 3 extra spots.

Make the other 2 good related ones. Also make sure your tags are related to your main keyword as well and place a few anchor links to your site, or whatever product you are promoting. You can view an example of two of mine at The Magic Of Making Up- After The Break Up and Earn 1 K A Day!. I put them up last week and they are already seeing some decent traffic, from referrals as well as google. HTH! Feel free to shoot me a PM if you get stuck or need further help.
      Best Regards,
      Cori
