OK, here is my dilemma:

I have been using Twitter since December 18th, 2008. That's almost 200 days ago.

I have about 1,700+ Followers. I'm not a dumb bum and pitch my affiliate marketing products. However, when I do pitch (which is occasional), I don't see any conversion.

Does anyone know how I can improve that conversion rate? I can only implement FREE Conversion Strategies.

Thanks,

Sometimes it comes down to the product(s) you are promoting. What are you offering and how are you "twittering" it?

You may have tried this already, but if not, I'd consider using tweets to move followers to a blog or a free newsletter (or another presales mechanism), rather than linking to the sales page directly through a tweet.

This maybe due to a few reasons:

    1. Your followers might not be interested in your product

    2. You don't tweet many people (or) you only tweet quotes

    How you can improve:

    1. Retweet your followers' links often

    2. When you post a link, ask for RT (there is nothing wrong if you do it occasionally)

By the way, I would like to know how you track your traffic and conversions.

Most of the traffic analyzing sites don't count the visitors who visit your link from twitter clients (like tweetdeck, twhirl etc)

    Cheers,

I agree with ramkarthik. How are you tracking all of this? And then, at what point of conversion are you loosing people? meaning are they goign to the link at all and just not buying, or are they not even going to the link?

    • To gacott:
They not even clicking the link! Which basically means I have a 0% conversion rate.

      To ramkarthik:
My followers are pretty targeted, so I'm not worried about the interest.

      Please help.

You can at least track your visitors with Bit.ly, which tells you how many people are clicking the link.

However, your Twitter followers may not be clicking because you have trained them to look upon your tweets as pushing affiliate links.

Why not write some cool blog posts related to the BENEFITS of the product you are pushing, and then steer the blog reader gently towards the product?

The bottom line is... people probably didn't sign up to your Twitter stream to be pushed affiliate links all the time, along with inspirational quotes. Provide some REAL, original content first that keeps them wanting to come back to your blog - and use the blog as your vehicle for making the sales.

    Just a few thoughts.

    You can try this.

If you're not even getting clicks it means either you've got a bunch of people who don't care what you have to say or your headline/subject lines (aka tweets/DMs) suck.

Are the kind of followers who are all following thousands of people and don't even read tweets and DMs? Or are they targeted followers who only follow people they intend to read messages from?

How much thought do you put into your tweets? Do you know what makes a good email subject line or classified ad headline?

  • Thanks guys.

    Umm.. Drover.

Probably 90% to 95% of my followers are targeted within my niche. And for my average tweet, I try to make it very intriguing and eye-catching as I can. However, I don't know the standards of having a "good e-mail subject line" or "classified ad headline".

One thing I'm seeing a lot of people do when they target is just use the search function and follow everyone. They mostly just end up with a list full of other marketers who are hitting the same niche. Just something to think about...
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[898683].message }}
  • Wow. You just hit me hard in the chest!

OK, you caught me in the act.

So, what should I do? Should I make a new account? Or is there still hope.. and if there is hope, how can honestly target my niche on Twitter?

    Thanks so much,

Good question. I wish I had a great answer. But people keep creating new Twitter follower tools. I'd really like to see one that lets you search for people based on a range of followers/followed as well as keywords. I mean if you have a bunch of followers who, even they're not other marketers, are following thousands of people themselves, what are the chances they're reading all those tweets?

I think the answer is to slow down on the friend adding and try adding people following fewer who will actually read your messages. Heh, go read that link I posted above. That's basically what it's about.

  • Oh, actually I have and it's quite powerful.

I now understand. However, I'm in a BIG hole ):

I have found the best way to promote your product on twitter is to help people and answer questions.

To find people that need help, go to Twitter Search
and type your topic followed by a question mark.

      ex: Adwords ?

This will return people that have posted a question about Adwords.

If you know the answer or your product/service answers it, you can respond to them and most will at least take a look at your link.

Have you ever used this method, and if you did..have you made money off of it?

This method does work for me. Lots of people are looking for Adwords or Twitter Tutorials on Twitter. I search for people asking questions about Adwords and Twitter and answer the questions for them. I then tell them about the videos if they want more detailed help.

Get involved in your topic and you will find people are more likely to check out what you recommend.

add a twitter background to your page with your offer on it so visitors will see it everytime they stop by...

You could also offer a "twit-discount" to your followers if they use a certain code or phrase that is only available on your twitter page.

Cool. Should I use a certain twitter background? Are there any backgrounds that are more profitable than others?

      Thanks,

I often use the method of helping people with a real problem on twitter.
You can use Seesmic Desktop for example to search for life tweets.

Just do a search like "-http I OR I'm AND need OR needing [yourkeyword]" in Tweetdeck or Seesmic Desktop and you will find people, who are in need to find a solution to their problem. Help them with the answer and you will get real followers. Maybe the answer is an affiliate link (which is shortened by bitly or budurl).

Thats a great way to add value to your tweets.

-http is by the way the trick to filter out tweets without a link in it ;-)

Ever thought of using a service like twollow ? Thats the place to get targeted followers. The service is parsing all the live tweets for your given keywords and you can autofollow them.

Another great way to add content to your site and get targeted followers, which will click on your affiliate links, is a method combining Google Alerts and Twitterfeed.

        Hope this helps !

    Hey,

Maybe you can try getting some targeted followers first.
Maybe what you are promoting is something out of their
    area of interst.

I am sorry I can't really answer your question because I am new to twitter (just signed up). Could you tell me why it is not showing followers when I have started following about 15 people now.
