Warrior Forum Advertisement - Is it just me ?

Hello Warriors,

For the last few hours, I've been getting alot of pop-up ads along with the banner ads from Offer Wizard on top. The layout of the Forum is also going into a more horizontal length.
Is it just me or are you experiencing it aswell?

I have Ad Block on Chrome so I never have to deal with Popups but these ads/pop-ups seem to bypass my Adblock.

I'm not seeing any of these... could be spyware on your PC?

These are not ads that we have running our site.
I'd advise that you run a virus/malware scan on your computer.

Definitely a virus or spyware. Just install an anti virus and remove it.

Thank you for the replies! I ignored it for a while thinking this was some advertisement untill all my tabs started showing these ads.

My Anti Virus doesn't have anti-spyware pre-installed, so it never showed up on any of the scans. Just downloaded a free Anti-Spyware that got rid of the problem.

Sounds like adware to me. The scary part is that you just don't know what else you may have if you were exposed to one thing you could have been exposed to others.

I suggest reformatting, but I'm just cautious like that I guess.

Most people don't heed that advice when I give it, so this is the second best thing to do.

    1. Download Malwarebytes and run it, run a full scan not a quick one. Follow the instructions on when to restart the computer.

    2. If you don't have an anti virus then download Microsoft Security Essentials. You can also use paid anti viruses but honestly MSE is just fine, especially if you follow this guide.

    3. Get rid of any bloatware you may have, uninstall old programs and what not.

    4. Ditch Java, get rid of Flash (Chrome can run it as a plugin instead and keep it updated this way) - get rid of Adobe Reader and basically as many Adobe programs as possible. Lookup alternatives, they exist for most of their software.

    5. Update all of your programs, make sure you stay on top of updates. You can use Secunia PSI for this (it's free) it will at least help a lot.

    6. Only use Chrome. In the settings go to advanced settings and then content settings and make sure under the plugins section you tick "click to play" - this will make you click on say a video to load it if it's flash. This will prevent plugins running automatically on sites you have never been to before. You can whitelist sites easily so you don't have to continue clicking on the videos on Youtube and other sites.

    7. Use your head, you are the best anti virus!

    8. Almost forgot this one. Use Sandboxie whenever you open PDF files or anything else you may not be sure of. It only takes 5 seconds to load their nag screen and it can help protect you.

I've been virus/malware/adware/whatever free for a few years now by following these steps. Of course, there could be some crazy thing on my machine that no AV picks up on (but it's unlikely!) - nothing is 100% secure but you can at least secure yourself better than 99% of the world and crackers are really lazy and look for easy bait.

      Thanks for these tips Nick!

I do have a paid version of Avast Anti Virus, but it doesn't have anti-spyware or anti-add ware! This is the reason most of the spyware and ad ware went 'under the radar'

Reading at the tips, one thing that caught my eye was the mention on Adobe! I recently installed Adobe Air.
A question tho, why do you not recommend using Adobe services?

I may just be cautious but in the past flash and java have both had a lot of exploits so I just don't use java and tried to replace as many Adobe products as possible. I still use Photoshop but that's it.
