Quotation marks, market research google

Hi everyone,

so my question is when trying to study how many pages you're actually up against for your given term/keyword does putting your key word in quotation marks give you a more accurate overview in Google?

Ive tried this method and it always cuts down the amount of pages by a lot im just wondering on why and if this is the best way to research how much competition you may or may not have.

Thanks.

It's not necessarily the number of pages you're up against, but also how those pages are optimised. You can get software like Market Samurai to look at that kind of information. I actually have a look at the features on my website here: Market Samurai Review | 100adayvideos.com

        Netpwn,

In Google search, when you add quotation marks around several words in a string, you're triggering a Google "phrase match." The results that are returned are those sites where you find this same phrase but not the single words. So, for instance, if you searched on "yellow running shoes" the results that come back will contain that same phrase.

A broad match would give you results for yellow, results for running, and results for shoes all combined into one search result. So a phrase match is more specific and targeted, which is normally to your advantage.

Broad matches will give you lots more results generally.

        Good luck to you,

        Steve
