Think twice before using free blog hosting

Hello everyone, I just wanted to inform the newbies not to use free blogging platforms aka blogger. I started an informative blog trying to target a new approach and it was deleted simply for having amazon affiliate links hyper linked. Don't waste your time with free blogging platforms.

I too have experienced this issue, when I first started blogging I took a FREE blog with wordpress.com and got shut down pretty fast. Professional own hosted wordpress blog always works better in my view

Definitely agree with you, and I have a dedicated server in a datacenter that I manage and control. But how do you draw the line? Otherwise it's going to be very expensive... I mean anyone could change their rules or vanish at any time, hostgator, rackspace, AWS etc.

There was another thread where people were voting which platform was the best. I was actually surprised to see blogger being voted and hailed as a great platform and it was free. There were more votes for Wordpress of course but it wasn't that far behind it when I last checked.

Unless you are mass building blogs and don't really care if they get taken down, always go for self hosted blogs like Wordpress. You have more control and it works for running blogs both small and large. It can be simple to set up and go, or you can use it as a content management system.

Agree with everyone here... Never build your blog on free blogging platform that you do not own!! Should be easy to understand this as you want to have complete ownership and control over any blog you decide to start up. Don't let another company control your outcome.

Blogger has been deleting all make money type blogs or blogs with any opportunities on them (except for AdSense of course). They have done this for years.

blogger.com is owned by Google. Just wondering what does Google have against people advertising Amazon products?

Actually wrote an article about this a couple of days ago. The High Cost of Free (and Cheap) | Big. Bold. Impact. for that.

"Free" will always cost you in the long run. Always control your content and ALWAYS back things up.

With most things FREE..... you get what you pay for.

Nobody has mentioned it yet so I will.... there is also no easier way to ruin your credibility and chances of a good first impression than with a free platform.

When someone's ad does its job and gets my click, if it lands me on something hosted on a free platform, im left with the impression that they're a CHUMP.

That's because they're to short sighted and cheap to bother with doing things the RIGHT WAY.... the way serious business people do things.

Blogger can be used only if you are low on cash. Also I have seen examples like this.

Sometimes they do tend to delete any blog for spam which have tries to earn from/prompt things other then Google.

Google like their blogspot, so it is easy to ranking. For newbies, you "can" start with free blog. But it is better to have your own blog. (buy domain, register hosting, install wordpress) as simple as that. :-) don over complicate things, just make sure your blog have "some" content and you are good to go.

    Hi CG,

Yes sir. Own it, or don't bother blogging. Free platforms own your content and can yank it for any reason. Owning your site means, unless you do something pretty egregious, you'll be live all the time. No need to have the rug pulled out from underneath you.

Think of it this way; if you moved into a free home you know there'd be some catch. Same deal in the online world. There's a catch, and you have to do what the landlord says, and the landlord's rules may be very fickle at times, and the rules may change overnight and you can be evicted at a moment's notice.

    All the best.

NEVER build your sandcastle on someone else's beach - always pay for key components in your business like:

    1.) Your launchpad name domain

2.) Paid autoresponder so only YOUR messages are in the emails

3.) Paid webinar service like GoToWebinar

4.) Paid squeeze pages like LeadPages

The first 2 are mandatory. If you're not willing to spend at least that for your business, you're simply not a serious marketer.

    Hope that helps!

On Worpress.com, it states clearly what isn't allowed:

Scraper blogs: Blogs that take content from other blogs and re-publish it without permission (this is sometimes called scraping). If a blog contains stolen content, it's gone!

SEO blogs: Blogs that are written for search engines instead of humans. These blogs are dedicated to trying to fool Google and other search engines into ranking them or the sites they link to highly. WordPress.com is not meant for this type of activity.

Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes ("Make six figures from home!!", "20 easy steps to top profits!!", etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category.

Warez blogs: Blogs that promote pirated copies of ebooks, software packages, music, movies, games, etc.

Automated blogs: Blogs that are generated by computers, including randomly generated blogs, blogs that re-publish press releases, marketing material, search engine results, link dumps or any other mass-produced content.

Book tour blogs: Blogs that consist of scraped, pre-written content, as opposed to original book reviews, for the purpose of promoting books and driving traffic to other promotional and giveaway sites.

If you must start with a free blog, always read the terms and conditions first.

This can't be highlighted often enough here, really.

Anyone imagining that "Blogger" is safe or sensible to use for any kind of IM site might find this thread (and 100 others, like it) helpful: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8363773

Anyone who can't yet afford hosting but wants to put up a site could do a lot worse than starting off somewhere like byethost.com, 000WebHost.com or freehostia.com. Free hosting is perhaps never going to be quite as reliable and good as paid hosting, but those are three free hosting companies with reasonable records, where you can put up a WordPress blog (and/or various other kinds of site) without paying a penny; they don't put their own advertising on your pages, and they'll even give you a free subdomain to use (just like "Blogger" will).
