I was wondering. I bought 2 .com domains for 9 dollars and some change from namecheap but I notice I can get domains with a coupon code for like a dollar with godaddy. I am curious is there a difference between the 2? Why do so many people recommend namecheap if godaddy costs less??

I've been with Godaddy since right after they opened up. I get calls from them from time to time to make sure I know whats going on with all my domains. They always look at my account number and say, you've been with us a long time. I have never had an issue with them, I have a nice group of domains with them and service has always been what I needed. It's not broke, so I won't change!

    Hey,

That's a great question. Honestly, i think it is because of the name. Right off the bat, when you hear namecheap, you think it will be the cheapest route to get a domain. Personally i prefer GoDaddy.

I had this confusion before, whether namecheap or godaddy was better. But now I have domains with both of them and both are equally good. Yes, GoDaddy offers coupons for $1 or less but that's only for one time, not the renewal prices.

Using GoDaddy coupons for a first time discount is a smart thing to do. After the first year you will pay full price, but I have used GoDaddy for many years with zero problems, and have always found them to be helpful if you ever need to contact them.

You might check with namecheap, at one time... I had over 200 domain names and they had a "GOLD" deal that saved your dollars on each registration

I have domains with Namecheap and Godaddy, and they are both good. I only prefer Namecheap because there are less hoops to jump through before checking out. Godaddy seems desperate to sell you extras.

On a personal level, Godaddy's a pain to work my way around if I just want a domain and nothing else. I have to spend time unchecking things, time going back because something ended up in my basket that I don't want etc. - Namecheap is much, much better in this regard, you go, you get a domain, you're done. Editing nameservers is easy, changing them to your own nameservers is easy.

Godaddy have got better recently with their new site design and it's a bit more fluid, but a lot could still be worked on.

I've also been boycotting godaddy along with a lot of other people since they offered their support for SOPA. The CEO is a vile man who went poaching in Africa, after reading all these I decided I didn't want to support their business.

This is also why I use Namecheap. I've gotten excellent service and had zero problems. I'm not very technical at all and have found Namecheap's support to be very good.

There is also a Diamond and Platinum code if you have have more than 200.
      (and its negotiable)

I've always been a big fan of Namecheap. They have stellar customer service.

Godaddy not so much. I noticed back in the day some websites i did research on mysteriously get regd by them.

So.. be aware when doing your research!

Namecheap is best -- no contest.
That goes both for hosting and for registering domains.

Countless customers have had horrible customer service experiences with Go Daddy. They also very often add in products and services when buying a domain that are hard to opt-out of. We've had several clients call us before wondering why they bought a domain at Go Daddy for <$10 and it renewed for $40+ the next year.

I have used Godaddy for years and never had any issues with their service.

The one thing to be careful of is the renewal cost of domains. It may be a low price for year 1 but year 2 onwards could be many times more than this so consider how long you plan to own the domain for

It baffles me too. I buy domains from namecheap but I have hosted more with Godaddy. Point of correction godaddy is not cheaper. Its the coupon and you get it for the normal price without the coupon. And its only for that amount for the first year. For domain name my best is still namecheap.

I have always been with Godaddy, been thinking lately to change over to another registrar because of the overzealous selling and adding this and that and their ...what, 6-7-8 step checkout?? That just pisses me off. "this is a good tme to renew your expiring domains!" 75 days left- no thanks I can keep my own eyes open, remind me if it expires in a week or two! They seem to get more and more like this too... Yeah when I have time to make the move, I will.

I have been using godaddy for domains and hosting for over 3 years. They are cheaper than others. Also godaddy service is good. I had never any problem with them.

Yes, sometime my server go down (Once in 2-3 months) but that happens with all hosting providers. But for domains godaddy is a perfect choice.

I bought my first domain via godaddy and never had any problems so I have never moved.
Last time I paid for a domain I used a FF add-on called HoneyPot that automatically checks if there are any valid coupons and I got like 50% off.
    So I can't complain.

GoDaddy = NoDaddy. Stay clear in my opinion. They have improved a lot from where they used to be, but they are nowhere near as good as Namecheap. Just my two cents.

Both are decent registrars. You can get some really cheap domains with go daddy if you search in Google and track them down. They are easy to find.
