Default Rave about Opera 10 This is Huge!

Hello warriors!

I just downloaded the new beta for the web browser opera 10, “opera unite”. Guys, this will be BIG! Most of the services have always existed and have always been available, but configuring and synchronizing the services were a pain and only specialized users were able to get advantage of it.

Opera has provided a server for any computer in the world! You just have to download it and within a few minutes, allow the world or just your friends to see a file, a webpage or a picture you want to show off.

The system is very young and it will be at least a year for it to take off, but believe me it will take off and it will change the way the internet is used. You don't have to go through the chore of setting up an account and spend hours uploading the pictures you took of your newborn baby, you simply send all your friends a link and they will connect directly to the pictures in your own computer!

What this means for marketers is huge; this will be a goldmine for applications that help individuals connect directly with individuals. For example it provides a chat room, with it you can talk to visitors on real time when they are primed for your product for one, no set up, no hassle involved. This will allow for a closer connection with users. Huge virtually unnoticed communities will blossom and connecting with them will require totally new strategies.

I've already thought of several profitable applications to develop and I bet you will think of a hand full yourself once you take the software for a spin.

I'm totally exited about this! This might be a review on Opera unite that looks tainted, but this software opens up a whole new level, it's 3 am but I had to tell you guys about it right away!

Hey Ayolof, nice to see that somebody else around here in interested in the lastest tech-news (and the best browser! ).

The programmer-part of me is also really excited about Opera Unite. It opens the web up for a whole lot of new possibilities, or at least I hope so.

I do not see how internet marketing can profit DIRECTLY from this, though? I mean, there are more than enough tools for customer interaction out there, right? (AIM/Skype/ICQ/MSN, Email, Forums, Blogs) Where is the advantage over communicating with people over your own server as an internet marketer? Do you mean the easiness of setting everything up?

Regardless, I love Opera and the innovation it has brought to the table over the years! Let's see how this continues.

This actually can harm us as it facilitates the exchange of files and other types of information from within the browser.

It's an interesting concept though.

This sounds like it's going to be great for connecting with families and friends, I doubt it's going to have the strength to bear any kind of load that a commercial application would require. Also Facebook already makes it so easy to share pictures, videos, and chat that most "regular" people have that need filled already.

However, I know better than to dismiss something like that out of hand, so I'm open to it and will try it out as soon as it's released to see what's up.

One of my favorite Opera features has been the ability to max out your browsers simultaneous connections for high speed.

As marketers, we have to be where the people go, wherever that is.

That's why we have webpages in squiddo and hubpages, that's why we go over to facebook and twitter. Opera will allow people to create their own communities, family communities, friend communities, work communities...

There are just a few applications right now but there will be a huge array of choices and flavors, you can sell pre-installed software, write manuals, tips & triks, offer affiliate applications, etc.

There will be a lot of ebooks to write about, from how-to books, to information these communities pass around. Wouldn't you love to have your ebook passed around within these closed communities?

Entering these tight markets will not be easy, but for the ones that manage to get in the referral value will be immense!

Marketers will want to know how to contact these groups? How do I get inside them? How do I offer products without being kicked out? How do I form my own network? How do I go viral in this new market?
We as pioneering marketers will be the experts and the ones telling the rest how we did it. Huge prestige, business deals and money come from there... if we figure out and answer these and other questions.

New software will have to be created to fulfill new needs, some will be free (think discrete ads here), some will be paid, either way a lot of money will be made in here.

Opera will bring cloud computing closer to reality, you will be able to work in your office and opera will be updating the information online, when you open your laptop on your business trip you will be able to pick up exactly where you left off, you will be able to use any computer to access the information. Your bookmarks, pictures, documents, emails... you name it. Everything will be synchronized, this will need a central server that could charge a fee for the service (this is the project I want to start working on), let's say it allows 1giga free and a fee if you want more, the ease and comfort with which the information goes online will make a lot of people pay, this way when they buy a computer they will not have to spend hours configuring the new system, importing their old stuff, they just connect to Opera and the information will be downloaded.

I can't remember any other software getting me so exited, I believe this will radically change online habits and this means business opportunities!

It's all about the installed base. Google is in bed with Firefox and has their own agenda with Chrome. Microsoft still dominates the OS landscape and will continue to bundle their own product. And the average guy uses what comes with his system. So until there is an installed base or a compelling reason for the average guy to take the time to download and use something else it can have a ton of great features.... but are they great enough to displace the big guys?

Wow, you clearly have you vision in your head, not bad. I'm impressed. I love visionaries.

You are right, there is going to be a lot of money in that market. Thanks for the hint, I will closely watch it (even though I'm sure that it will take years, if not a decade, till people will use it on a broad basis).

One thing I can't really agree with, though: Cloud computing. Take a look at this little comment over at Techchrunch:

Cool would be a could based counterpart server that syncs with your opera unite so that if presents the latest version of what your machine when you’re offline.

- The cloud movement works into the opposite direction of having everything online and use whatever devices to access, provide and manipulate media. The approach and the flexibility of the ubiquitous cloud ‘computer’ has a lot of appeal to most early adopters (read potential opera users)
I also agree with this, cloud computing is another approach than Opera's. What you suggested about the 1gb online-storage for free and the possibility to upgrade to more space if you pay to have everything synchronized does sound a lot like how cloud computing works today to me, doesn't it?

Anyway, it's an awfully interesting technology nevertheless and I feel blessed to grow up in this day and age and be a part of this.

I love opera.
1) it integrates email clients;
2) it does not support many virus,
3) the shortcut command, for example, "g" for google search, really helps me.

BTW, opera is the fastest browser in the world (render engine) and it has more installation than iphone os on mobile phone.

well, opera is great, however, every time when the new version is released, it always causes some problems. I always wait some time until the "new" release is stable,

Thats strange. Luckily that never happened to me.

Anyway, Its worth to wait for few days before installing the new version of a software.

Yes, but remember opera first introduced tabs on the browser... everyone followed, don't look at the market share, just see its usefulness; opera introduced sessions and firefox now has session plug-ins, I'm not saying Opera will suddenly rule the market, I'm just trying to show something new that will force the rest of the browsers to do the same. In a few months, firefox will come up with something similar, and they now own twenty something percent of the market. Microsoft as always will be the last and will throw the worst product that will be the one everyone else uses, but whatever browser you have, the fusion of browser and server is now a reality that will change many trends, change represents for avid marketers Opportunity; that's all I'm saying, "look, this is new and it will grow", right now a handful of people may be using opera but the trend is going up.

It defiantly is interesting, but I agree, it will open up a new door for virus and malware distribution.

The blunt fact is that this may be easier to set up than the "big guys" - specifically, Microsoft's IIS or Apache - but it has all the same security implications and technical requirements. Don't be fooled; you still have to manage your firewall, track your bandwidth, and abide by your ISP's terms of service. The barrier to entry that sits in front of IIS and Apache is no higher than that, so chances were that if you set up one of them - you could handle all the other requirements. Opera's new server might make it easy to get in, but staying in is no less technical in the long run.

It may, however, bring home the reality to a lot of ISPs that normal people want to run their own servers... which would, in an even longer run, improve the situation for anyone and everyone who wants to have a public server in the living room.

I'm that writer you ask how to find every time your other writers deliver.

Default Re: Rave about Opera 10 This is Huge!

The project is not even in beta, it's an alfa so expect bugs and problems if you download. There are many obstacles ahead, I believe security will be the main one. I don't want you to switch to opera, I'm just pointing out a revolutionary feature in a great browser. BTW Opera is one of the safest browsers around, although security online has always been more of an illusion.

Please, don't focus on the bad, look at what possibilities open up with this. Understand that good or bad people are going to use it and along with it opportunities for business entrepreneurs.

Can it harm marketers as Tyrus Antas points out? Yes definitely, if you can't see ahead a few years from now and adapt then you are on the wrong profession, Internet marketing is one of the most dynamic trades and you have to dance to its rhythm. This is why I am talking about this browser, because it will definitely change a lot of trends.

You decide, make money with it by understanding it or wait and see the train pass you by at full speed- or even run you over.
