Default How to Protect My Folder on Server

How do you make a folder that is
uploaded on a server not to be accessed
directly? Example, the folder “Look”
in a URL contains various files. Now,
if someone tries to access it through the
browser this way, MyDomain.com/Look,
he should receive a message like
“Files in this folder are not accessible directly”

I don’t want anybody to access those files
without opting into a list.

Thank you for responses and ideas

Do it thrpugh your cpanel.
Look for password protect directory.
Also make sure you put an index.html file in there or else it will list all the files in that directory if it isn't protected.

Hi,

A quick fix is to place either an empty index.html file in that folder or a squeeze page as the index.html file.

If people type in that URL they will see the index.file rather than a list of the files in the folder.

Actually protecting the folder should be accessable in your hosting control panel.

Better way is to make the index.html a redirect back to your main site. This will keep them from even 'sitting' on your folder to try getting into it.

Thanks,

John

Well best option would be to password protect that particular folder from the Cpanel like "jimh1626" said and then send out the password to your subscribers once they subscribe to your list as your first message in the sequence.

Thats the simplest option.
