Hi there,

I am a bit confused with tagging. Does it help my site, to be more visible during searches, ?does it help at all?
is tagging necessary?

Although I'm no expert, I do believe it helps you in more ways than one. Also (Although I'm a total newb when it comes to this) I believe it helps if you submit your articles to places like digg etc.

  Just curious to know what you are tagging (i.e blog post, articles, social bookmark, etc). depending on what your tagging I can give you a better answer.

Yes it is. Most definitely.

Another awesome thing about WordPress and Tags is that you actually get RSS feeds PER TAG, so if you go and spread those around to RSS directory sites, you're going to have a lot more link food out there for people to pick up. If your tags consist of "money" keywords for your niche... you see where this is going?

If you think about it, the big revolution with Search Engines is making the leap that a link fro a webmaster was like a "vote" from someone saying, hey, this website I'm linking to is cool, and the text in my anchor is what it's about.

Now consider what tagging IS - putting that same linking/labeling power in the hands of web USERS instead of web MASTERS and you can see why the search engines LOVE tags to help determine what content is relevant.
