Plain text or HTML email?

Have any of you run split tests to find which types of emails convert better (think solo ads or email blasts to your list)?

I'm wondering if you opt for a text only email, or if you dress it up with HTML (Logos, images, more sophisticated formatting etc)?

In my opinion, good formatted plain text emails are better... When I see that someone sent me a HTML email with images and stuff, I delete it immediately without even reading it... I think those images are annoying and I immediately think it's spam.

    Just my 2 cents...

I send HTML emails; however, they look like plain text. There are no images or anything like that.

I send HTML to include a little CSS to make things a little more visually appealing...but that is all.

Like Amazing Dave said - I delete emails that require me to load images....so why would I expect anyone else to open my image laden email?

HTML emails are definitely better -- if done tastefully. It much harder to direct a reader's eyes using just text.
