Yahoo answers - does it really work?

Hi,

I wonder if it is worth posting answers on Yahoo Answers. Does it really bring traffic to your site.

I mean only the asker will probably visit your link, if at all.

Do you have any experience with it?

thanks,

I hear of marketers posting there because a lot of people are seeking the answer to "the same question".

So, technically, you should get a lot more views than one. A good thing to note about that is someone is looking for a solution to a problem. And, that is what marketing is all about.

I haven't done that yet but I'm sure others on this forum have experience with it.

The asker won't be the only one to visit your link. The key is to give a useful answer then leave your link. You'll get some clicks especially if yours is chosen as best answer. Plus the questions are indexed, so search users may click the link sometime in the future. One of my sites has received 30-40 visitors this month from Yahoo answers. Haven't answered a question in that category for at least 10 months...some were answered 2 years ago As you can see, the traffic isn't substantial, but it's something at least.

Write an article for Associated Content, or somewhere else you get compensated per 1000 impressions. Once published, search Answers for related topics and link back to your published articles. As chessguy stated, he gets a steady flow month to month. This can be a method to building your impressions on the pay to write sites. Make sure the linking/answering is targeted and you'll reap maximum benefit. Yahoo answers get normal, organic search eventually too...

i tried yahoo answers. i saw a lot of stupid questions and the same number of stupid answers. it seems the level of education of those posting on yahoo answers is extremely low. i dont think they will ever buy anything, but thats just my opinion...

You are 'quite' right, these people aren't any big spenders at all.
I only make a few 100 $ instead of 1000 $/month every month from there.
      Zero cost involved though!

TheFlash is right, but you have to pick your questions carefully and don't waste your time replying to the 'stupid questions'.

The best way I have found to use Yahoo Answers as a traffic source is to have a blog filled with content.. and then outsource the answering on Yahoo..

Your outsourcer can answer a question and then quote your blog content as a credible source..

Don't use it to spam links to your own content.. and most times if you link to your own content you'll get booted..

Create a content filled blog and then pay someone else to link to it... works a treat

Exact same process that I'd recommend.

With almost ALL my traffic generation tactics, I prefer laying out the plan and outsourcing the hard work to competent people.

Yahoo answers traffic converts well for me. I'd give it a thumbs up!

It takes lot of hard work to make it work.

    I personally don't recommend it.

  • Try it and test it. Traffic is not useful to me unless it converts. There is a lot of the "lemming" mentality. People want to jump on board after they know something "works". But if you stick to that philosophy of playing it safe the rewards are usually milked out buy then. No risk, no reward. SEM involves a lot of testing, trial and error. And waiting for the other guy to figure things out to see "if they work" is a low risk low reward endeavor.

Hey - Well, I've been using Yahoo Answers for around ten days now and I really like it. Yes, a lot of people ask almost the same question - so it may be complicated to answer it 10 times, but you can basically copy/paste it over and over again a few times, then give a new answer and just copy that one.

I'm currently trying to get to Level 3 and I'm not sure when is it that you become a Top Contributor, but I've heard it's a good boost. Well yeah, Yahoo Answers can get ranked well in the search engines, so you might as well get some traffic later for long tail keywords. In my opinion YA is great - since you can actually learn a lot about your market - and more importantly, as far as I've seen so far - the traffic is REALLY targeted - most of my traffic from over there stays a lot longer on my website then other traffic sources.

Here are some stats for now -

142 questions answered - in about 10 days, maybe less.
16 best answers (brings you more traffic since you get more exposure)
632 points and Level 2 still.

My goal was to answer around 1000 questions and then see what I get out of it, since I get a few questions from my niche every day. And bigger niche's, like weight loss - get more then 20 questions per day for sure.

Now how I do it, is that I answer a few random questions first - answering every question get's you 2 points, and after a few random questions I search for a question in my niche - give it a really good answer, and then leave a link in my source box - and ONLY in the source box, so I don't get banned for spamming. Plus, I always leave links to different pages of my website. After that I answer another 2-3-4 or more regular questions, then once again a niche related and so on. So let's say that I've answered around 30 questions where I left a link in my source box. But really, I didn't do a lot of work at all, maybe invested 10 hours into this maximum.

Traffic - 175 visitors. That's not a lot at all, but it's still something and it might pile up after some time, I think it will take me around 2 more months to get to 1000 answers, so I'll report back then and say what I have to say

I love yahoo answers it really really works you should go and give it a try.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[901534].message }}
  • I have used as a passive stream of free traffic.

It's not that effective. Only a few clicks here and there. And they don't convert, even though I directed them to my blog.

Overall, I do NOT recommend it.

Yes YA works. You'll often see a YA answer in the top results of Google for many keyword phrases and if you are best answer then you are likely to get a lot of traffic from it.

If you are including a link, always aim to get 'best answer' for maximum results.

It works if you know how to work it. Give helpful answers and include your keyword phrase so you can be picked up by the search engines.

Yahoo loves its Yahoo answers so it is also a quick way to get your site indexed by Yahoo!

They've made changes to their rules so read them carefully.

What are the most important changes that they made?

How long should it be an answer so it can be chosen as a best answer?

I've been dropping by to answer a few questions each week for quite some time, and it has generated revenue for one of my sites. Recently I got an email from Yahoo Answers that someone had subscribed to "my answers". So I guess you can build a following.

Instead of outsourcing, why not create a couple of yahoo accounts with different names and do the promotion for your site? Would yahoo notice that it's the same person in any way and delete the accounts? I think as long as the user has a dynamic IP it should work?

But let's say you're upfront about you who are - and link to your own site every once in a while. As long as its in the source box yahoo will tolerate it? Even if it's not really related to the question/answer? (Let's say someone asked about beatles records and you answer that, but in the source box you leave a link to 60s records)

I just had my first experience with YA today so I'm extremely curious. I would love to promote my site but I also don't want to lose my yahoo account that I have used for 8 years.

I haven't used this site! I know I should... I've been focusing on article marketing. Are the links nofollow or do you get backlinks from it?

YES, yahoo! answers does absolutely work!! It has been bringing in sufficient traffic for me , actually it is the #2 source of traffic for my sites....

So yes, it absolutely does work!!

Although how many of those visits were actually sales though.....Although (again) I do see that most likely, that some of them did indeed come from YA!

so YES, it does work, whether you believe it or not...

Although I MUST admit that you must work hard at it...I mean, I did times where I did a full 30 to 40 questions a day and actually seeing a flood of traffic, etc!

So y es, it does work, but surely you need to work it also!

    Good luck!
