The key lies in the bold phrase:

attribution - You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).

Some will accept a text-only (not clickable) attribution, some require a live link. I've seen some that only require mentioning the CC license.

When you find an image you like, check for license terms or contact the owner/licensor for guidance.

    There is no blanket answer.

It can be clear as mud. I am not a lawyer so cannot speak from a legal perspective. I would imagine it depends on what you're using the image for. If it is to sell some dodgy 'cure' you may get flak. but if your content is good and informative and you include a link to the original source it could be OK.

My impression is that you use other peoples images at your peril regardless of the licence. Why not use a few of your own?

Ideally, I would like to use at least one pretty woman/girl picture that I will have retouched and I am a man.

Since it is for starting a photo editing portfolio I will also try to use pictures in public domain or my own own ones.
