stop hiding contact info!

I have found SO many times people not showing their contact info, no simple email address, nothing.
Seriously, why do you do this? today I found someone ripping off an expensive internet marketing package (arbitrage something or other) and selling it for 50.00.
I had the sellers contact info name and everything and ready to let the owner of this program know about it..there was NO way to track down this person.
Just a huge sales page of (as usual) promises of getting rich.
I have found a lot of pirated software and programs and out of all the people I have tried to notify, only THREE had contact info that i recall.
So arbitrage, you are being ripped off, and apparently since you hide everything anyway...perhaps you don't care?
Simple email. use gmail, its painless.
I never ever ever buy anything from anyone that does not have contact info on the site. I mean EVER. If the pre-sales access is so poor and the interest in actually selling the product or answering questions is of no importance, the post sales will be the same.

simple email, all it takes.

Legitimate, professional businesses provide their contact information. That doesn't mean you need to spell out where you live (if you don't have an office), just give your customers the ability to get in contact with you via email, telephone and postal mail at the very least.

    Brian,

I can tell you why - there are too many people harvesting email addresses and phone numbers on our sites, and then spam us to death.

I know I won't be putting my info up for the public again after I move this next week. I will only be using a P.O. Box, a help desk, and will give my email to list members and buyers. If it is that important where people need to contact me, they can go thru the channels.

This is the exact reason I don't like putting my contact info on the page (I had so much spam before when I first started). I will put my email contact on the page using (at) or dot com but my business address is reserved for people who sign up for my autoresponder (the AR company puts it on their automatically anyway) &/or people who buy my products.

I have found that the best solution for me is to simply reserve a calling line for the site, get an admin email and a po box. These seem to take care of things and if I do get spam etc, its not my personal lines so its not nearly as bothersome. That's just a part of being in the marketing stream.

Similar to the above, I have a separate 800 number for the business, costs all of $2 per month from Kall8. I put my real e-mail address on all websites without fear, MailTrust which hosts the e-mail accounts on my own domains has some heavy duty spam filters and very few false positives.

      Mailtrust is awesome
Formerly known as Noteworthy, I have about 45 email accounts on there and a lot of them are listed publically. No spam at all. I'm just putting it out there for you people who haven't experienced rackspace. They can be the beesknees, I love getting my tickets answered in 10 minutes 24/7.

Anyways, if the site has no contact info, terms of service/refund policy, or privacy policy listed, I do not buy from it nor do I share my personal information.

You are talking on this forum, or in general?

I can say that some people choose to remain private more so that they can not be easily tracked or copied by their competition.

Others are just privacy nutcases who fear this or that with their family, because they may not approve of the kinds of products they market in the firstplace...

Others choose not to mix personal life with business, which I can understand from a viewpoint.

I get that people want to know they are talking to a real person, and legit and everything, however in the online world there are some crazy people out there, and I would also understand some people needing some sort of screen between personal and business.

But in that case, then people could just use pen names etc... right? But really, the more successful people know you are... the more they know how you do what you do... the more they may copy it... steal it... and problems... problems occur...

This is an issue for small guys perhaps...

but aside from that, I totally understand the other aspect of it, where people just want to rip you off.

personally I am not offering anything like ebooks/websites etc... I market other people's things for now... so I dont see a need to directly identify myself in that manner... Aside from that I just try to help, see advice or give if I can...

but to do that, do you need to know my whole life story?

    That is my argument.

Nobody said anything about "your life story". Read the OP. NO CONTACT INFO.

And, I too pass on offers if you don't care enough to provide a method of contact. A "help line" is fine, but just do it!

I've done it both ways and it seems clear to me that more ways to contact me equals more sales. I also realize this depends largely upon what one sales, but I understand both sides.

Yes, I get what you meant here... sorry. But this is something people have hounded my case for... not having details on my own name here in WF and saying i am therefore not legit? that is what I meant... but I would love your opinion there as well?
