Which do you find makes you more productive when you have something difficult to create?

Spending 1 hour per day for 5 days or 1 stint at the weekend for 5 hours?

For many years I have believed in the power of taking baby steps, breaking complex problems or difficult task into small eatable chunks. This has lead me to structure my Masterteams into daily activities believing that 1 hour per day was more effective than one 5 hour stint at the weekend.

However recently someone questioned my assumptions on this. Their arguments were:
1) They take 30 mins to really get into a subject, so spreading it out over 5 days halved their productive thinking time.
2) Easier to eliminate distractions at the weekend, than during the working week.
3) Gets the task over and done with, and does not drag on too long.

My thinking in support of the 1 hour per day was:
1) Small manageable steps that overcomes the feelings of dread if the task is very difficult or complex.
2) You have 5 mini deadlines, and like most people I always work better under a little time pressure.
3) Quick feedback from other members in the Masterteam, so you know you are on track that day, instead of waiting until next week.
4) 5 times the opportunity for the unconscious mind to be programmed and for you to discover those inspired ideas.

I know there is no right or wrong answer to this, it comes down to personal preference. However it would be interesting to know what the vast majority think.

May I ask what works better for you, one stint of 5 hours or 5 x 1 hour baby steps?

Thank you

Depends what it is that is being created. If it involves creativity and artfulness I find it best to sleep on it, I get my best ideas while I'm asleep

If it's something that just needs to get done and over with, I do everything in one sitting if at all possible. Depends a lot on the situation at hand of course. Like you say, there's no right or wrong way. This is how I am. I can't force creativity, artfulness or ideas, they come when I am not trying at all. With manual labour I'm the exact opposite -get it done pronto
