I use a blog currently and am just making a podcast now. If you don't have an established audience, it seems starting with a blog is easier and then bringing your podcast in as added value for your blog readers is ideal. If you do it the other way around, getting people to listen to your podcast can be really difficult. If you have a blog already and you start a podcast like I am, you can also transcribe the podcast in the blog post so people can see which sections they might be interested in and for SEO benefits.

I actually started with a podcast and built my blog around it. There are benefits either way.... you can get notoriety by using the 64 days on iTunes "New and Noteworthy" charts with your podcast, but, you'll be much better off by starting your platform on the blog and through other forums. Get a following, even if its a small one. Provide service to them. Give them information they rely on. Help them out in times of need.

Then, when you have helped a sufficient number of people with your information on the forums, begin to blog. Continue to assist those people in need on the forums, but now, provide a bit of information on the forum, and a link to your article.

Once you've built a tribe... complete with registered email addresses, THEN start your podcast! You'll grow your podcast audience MUCH faster that way. Take the time to "call in your favors." Or, as Gary Vanderchuck says, "Hook" (after you've "jab,. jab jab" - ed.) em with a request to listen, rate and review your podcast.

By getting the subscribes, likes, rates and reveiws, you're pushing your podcast to the top of the New and Noteworthy rankings... which gets your podcast in front of THOUSANDS of listeners each day you're at or near the top!

    Hope this helps!
