Warning to those paying for classified ads URGENT

I have just been browsing the classifieds section and have noticed a disgusting practice.

There are 'review' posts with affiliate links in them, this is all well and good as its allowed in the classifieds, the worrying part is there are forum members (mostly joined 2 days ago) that are posting their own review with their affiliate links in them effectively hijacking the thread that the OP has paid for.

So if you have paid for a posting in the classifieds section then I would check your thread has not be hijacked and if it has then report it to the mods seeing as you have paid for the ad.

That sort of thread hijacking is disgusting and the people who do it are lowlife scum.

People who pay for sales threads here need to monitor their threads. No one is going to do it for them. There have always been spammers who have tried to hijack sales here in the sales threads. Nothing new. It's the reason signatures were turned off in the WSO forum.

Isn't that what the MODERATORS are supposed to be doing?

They can't cover everything all the time. If you request it they will be removed.

The mods can only do so much. You have to do your part too.

Yes of course. They're supposed to check hundreds of sales listings daily for wrongdoing as well as monitor the forum for spam. Get a grip.

You can see this very often in youtube videos as well. One person explaining a product and someone comments with spam links.

Its just scummy to do this, these are not just 2 line comments with an affiliate link what I saw was full blown 500+ word 'reviews' with aff links which is unfair to the person paying for the original post.

    Valdor,

Are you reporting these when you see them?

Yes I did report them and they have now gone.
Its not like am some forum reporting everything but this was just so scummy that I felt morally obliged to at least attempt to do something about it.

bravo for reporting them, Valdor - I think it's scummy too - I think if you pay for a thread, you have to be vigilant and check it for this sort of thing -

with thousands of new threads everyday the mods have their hands full - I have the utmost respect for them, truly.

I'm pretty sure that's against the terms for any of the forum sections. The mods will only find out about it though if somebody reports it. If I had paid my own hard earned money for a thread you can be sure that I'd be on top of that. Some people will always look for the loop hole or grey area of the TOS.

You just have to keep checking on your thread. Would be nice to know if they get banned for using such dirtbag tactics. There should be a no tolerance policy when it comes to that, or they will just keep posting their affiliate links on other threads.
