Direct linking to test sales video conversion percentage?

Howdy!

I'm in the process of creating a sales video for a niche that's not related to money, health or relationships -- which I know is probably a no no. I'm looking to test the conversion rate for the sales video, but I'm not sure what would be the best way to do this in a niche that's kinda weird.

Besides media buying -- any recommendations? I never use google, but is it possible to direct link using the google content network...if you're the product owner? I guess you can argue this a form of media buying too.

    Hey Mike

    I would suggest going to BingAds and setting up a ppc campaign. I recommend them because you can get a targeted visitor to your site for as little as 5 cents.

    Plus, BingAds will let you run a campaign with a minimum of $10. However, I recommend maybe spending $15-$20 to fund your campaign for test traffic only. Once you run out of money for that campaign, I would go back and track results and R.O.I and that should tell you if the video on your landing page is high converting or not.

    I'm sure there are many other ways, but this would be the best, and fastest, way in my opinion.

    For what type of traffic are you looking to test it?

    Whatever type of traffic you choose to test it with, all you'll learn is its conversion-rate for that type of traffic. No more and no less.

    For example, if you test it using some kind of PPC traffic, and it spectacularly fails to convert that traffic, it might still be a bestseller for the opted-in, subscriber traffic that successful, professional affiliates would send to the page. I'm not exaggerating: I've known this to be exactly so, for a product for which I'm now a bestselling affiliate: the vendor tested and split-tested various versions of the sales-page on two types of traffic (neither of which a pro-affiliate would use) and it basically didn't convert at all. However, targeted traffic from affiliates with lists of subscribers converted very well indeed (and that's even understating it, if anything).     You see what I'm saying, I'm sure? To put it a little bluntly, "how direct-linked traffic converts" means nothing to someone with "real traffic".

      Thanks for the feedback. A lot of great points. I'm sure it would for sure convert if the traffic has opted in.

      However, I'm not sure how many affiliates would promote to a product that has a squeeze page though. That's why I was hoping to see if I can get a decent conversion rate with direct linking first. So I can tell affiliates "it even converts on cold traffic", etc. But, Numerology 101 has a squeeze page...maybe it's possible.

      Why am I trying a video sales letter in this market? Probably because I'm an idiot, and I had a gut feeling to do this product. Plus, everyone else has a salesletter -- and I was hoping it may make my product stand out in a good way maybe -- probably not. lol

        (E.g. by finding a handful of affiliates willing to help you out for a suitable reward? You'd save the money you were going to spend on direct-linking, anyway?).

        I understand the logic entirely. I'm afraid the practice is usually unproductive, though. It's asking an awful lot for it to convert cold traffic (especially with a video sales page?!), but the fact that it doesn't (if it doesn't!) doesn't tell you anything at all about whether or not it will convert "real traffic". Admittedly, if it does happen to convert cold traffic as well, you can be pretty sure it will convert serious affiliates' traffic, but that's normally a koolaid-induced wish ... .

          I understand the logic entirely. I'm afraid the practice is usually unproductive, though. It's asking an awful lot for it to convert cold traffic (especially with a video sales page?!), but the fact that it doesn't (if it doesn't!) doesn't tell you anything at all about whether or not it will convert "real traffic".           Hey Alexa,

          Thanks for the help. Is a video sales letter a big "no no" when it comes to the new age market? Just curious, on why you think it's asking for a little much to get it to convert with a sales video. I figured since sales videos tend to increase conversions in the bigger markets...it may in this one as well.

            It would be for me, honestly, but that comment perhaps relates to my traffic demographics rather than to the entirety of "the New Age market".

    Where is your target market most likely to be hanging out? That's where you want to be.

    You can't go past Facebook for most niches these days. Instant, targeted and huge amount of traffic.
