Have a look & Suggest improvements please

Will the warriors look at my blog post (using wordpress and some plugins) and suggest improvements please? The post is at

All about accounting for beginners

Will this have seo advantages/disadvantages?
Will it be difficult to read for the visitor?
What will the big G think of this content?

I was experimenting with collapsing objects and magazine columns plugins and thought I would take your views before I decide on posting better content and monetizing it.

    Hi, Swami Nathan,

This is a nice online text book and is very specific and to the point.

With an Alexa rank of 1,516,009 it is in the top 5.48% of all web sites and the blog has a Technorati rank of 2,455,658 which puts it in the top 3.51 % of blogs.

Google has 357 pages indexed and there are 194 inbound links on the site.

Not too dusty if this site is not very old.

If you want to improve the site for accounta¡nts, look at other sources of specialist articles and keep the content fresh.

If you want to improve it according to the rules of internet marketing then stick some videos on it, a few flash banners, 'killer' graphics and anything else you can think of that would detract from the value of the content.

I suppose a few Google ads would not go amiss - or you could get some very appropriate products and have some discreet affiliate ads (Google style) with the articles.

Wow, a nice indepth analysis of the site. Thanks for that.

Actually, I was testing some theory I had - that your site does not necessarily have to be focussed on a particular theme (more on this later), and the idea behind collapsing content is to get people to be in clicking mode. I used plr articles to see how the page looks with clickable links that will reveal only the content people want to read.

The idea is to ultimately find a way to write a presell page leading the visitor from one thought to another till they finally arrive at a link that leads them to my affiliate offer when clicked on. And the content will be appropriately seo'd for whatever it is worth.

Also, it was important that the page doesn't look like a mass of advertisements screaming at the customer to buy what I recommend, but rather, the recommendation is made discreetly.

I also figured for this test that if I put all the plr articles in one page with this plugin, the page will have vauable content that will eventually get recognized by Google as an authority page. It also helps in backlink building as I have the flexbility of having different anchor text links pointing to the same page, again giving the feeling of authority.

Most people would just skim through the page anyways, and only read if they are really really interested in the offer. Why not make it easy for them to skim and find what they want instead of clicking away from the page? Whatever I put on the page, be it graphics or videos, it would still be collapsing content so the page by itself looks clean and well structured.

With this way of giving information in small chunks, I guess you could lead them to a sign up page, sales page, get them to become a member, etc. The thought process is still hazy on how exactly the concept could be used, though I have some ideas.

Yes, the domain is a bit old, and all my posts get indexed in less than 30 mins, though not at top rankings. I have to SEO the wordpress theme a little more I think, and get links. The alexa ranking etc. are from having a auto page generating script that spit out 10000 pages at one go (used in my adsense days), and will not last forever.

Google is not seeing the index page as any more than a page with links on it.

The drop down articles are being seen as individual pages which is why there are 357 indexed. The page rank is hovering around 2 but I think an active blog could make a difference to that.

I don't think you should try to make this a funnel down which to feed prospects. The articles you have are quite authoritative and will lead to people book marking your site and coming back regularly - especially students, articled clerks and finalists (These are buyers! They are used to buying high cost products).

If you look at some of the articles you will see that they lend themselves very well to promoting text books and accounting hardware and software and my choice would be to have quiet, under-stated ads that will get people clicking, not because they are being screamed at but because there is a sexy little wriggle there that is irresistable.

As I said, you have developed a nice, online text book - look around and you will see that in the accounting field, it is rather unique.

      Thanks for your comments.

To clear things up, I have other articles on the site, and this is why G shows 357 pages indexed, not due to the individual articles on this particular page.

Having said that, you have given me an idea - I can make some keywords in the articles as hyperlinks to monetize them with books, software etc. Thanks for this tip.

I guess we have to wait and see how G treats this page.

Do you think I should make the content box narrower, and have the links in one column?

My original thought was to lead the visitor to click gradually, by providing the content this way - for example, in health niche, say hemorrhoids, by having clickable links for:

      Symptoms of hemorrhoids
      Causes of hemorrhoids
      Treatment options
      Recommended treatments
      Dietary considerations
More information resources (this will contain my links to affiliate products, or if only one product is found, this link itself will lead to the affiliate sales page).

Effectively, a person with a desparate need for a solution will click through these links, and by the time he clicks on the last one, will be pre-sold enough to buy.

Though the visitor would see a list of links, Google will see lots of relevant content. With sensible link building, the page can get up in rankings.

I think you have to get into the minds of the people who will be reading your site and the way that you have built it.

For the most part, as I said, I would expect that your readers will bookmark the site so that they can easily find good information on topics that are too fractured in their reference books. They will not be tempted to click on words within an article because they will be reading the article and taking notes. Like I am, they will probably be sick and tired of other sites with links that distract them from the reason for their visit.

If you can develop a loyal readership you will find that they will start to look at your site for product information as well as technical information because they have developed the habit. The site looks very clean and business like at the moment and I can see that subtle advertising could be very attractive and subliminal. Try to get too 'internet marketing' oriented and you will probably need to redesign the whole thing.

@artwebster: I agree fully with you. Subtle advertising it will be! Your insightful comments have led me to see how I can monetize the page.

I have made another page on similar lines (incomplete, of course) with subtle advertising. Does this seem ok?
