I was shocked when my sister, a high up in an oil company in london had never heard of fiverr. My brother as well. Fiverr clones should seize this opportunity and get the word out using more outlets rather than the net alone.

    Good luck. Fiverr currently has a massive Adsense campaign complete with retargeting. I suspect it has something to do with either an IPO, a new venture funding round, or perhaps a roll up or acquisition bid.

      Would not be surprised if Freelancer added Fiverr to there future business plans. Think about what else they have purchased and Fiverr might be part of a bigger plan.

    I wish that were so. When Fiverr first started the clones did some business, but people started to gravitate toward one big company. Sadly, it is hard to get traffic on clones now. Wish there was a real competitor to shake em up. Here is good news. Maybe a big company can jump in. Like they could make a lot of money.

    It was simply my observation that there are still millions out there ignorant of fiverr.A clone with seed money of $100m invested heavily into tv and radio and billboard advertising could take the industry by storm.Or better still find a better model

    Most non-IM people have likely never heard of fiverr. I'd say the vast majority of fiverr's gigs are bought from IMers; So it makes sense that someone in the oil or postmaster industry has never heard of it, because there's a good chance they would never need or use it

    We live in a bit of an awareness bubble.

    Most "normal" people just use the net for emailing, googling, gaming and arsing around on social media sites.

    Walk down your local high street with a clipboard and ask random people (young & old) these questions:

    Can you tell me what Wordpress is?
    Can you describe what Fiverr.com does?
    What service do these companies provide:
    Aweber?
    Hostgator?
    Perfect Audience?
    What common interest do members of The Warrior Forum have?

    The responses and the blank looks will amaze you.

    Business is a different world. I know CEOs who would not use fiverr simply because they are not as price sensitive as you might think. Many big companies would look at fiverr with a modicum of suspicion simply because its so cheap.

    I know one company that pays $100 to a consultant (not me) per email blast to their email newsletter - why would they do it? They are assured quality and when their own bonuses and payrates are on the line, they'll pay what it takes for quality. And fiverr has a very low perceived quality.

    Of course, personally, I quite like it !

    The vast majority of Fiverr clones don't succeed, there's only a couple I can think of that are doing ok at the moment. People are also hesitant to purchase from clone sites due to most of them having very little activity and users. Plus, it's pretty hard to compete with Fiverr's marketing campaign.

      The only way I can think of for a clone to survive at this stage would be to keep their offering focused on a very specific vertical, one which actually had a lot of little chores one might pay $5 for.

      That likely takes the "billions" off the table, but it does offer a chance.

      Another idea would be to take the basic concept (all offers carry a set price) and move it uptown, more like a concierge service. How about "Grandrr"?

    Whilst most in the IM sphere have heard of it your average person hasn't.

    On a non IM forum I use there was recently a thread with someone talking about how awesome Fiverr was and nearly no one in this HUGE forum had heard of it.

    Most people I know in real life haven't heard of sites like Reddit or Pinterest.

    I was very surprised to find out none of my friends knew Thisiswhyimbroke,com

    A good mate of mines asked me the other day if I "knew what an internet meme was" as he'd just heard about it.

    People like us tend to spend a lot of time online and be quite clued up but your average person really isn't.
