Help With WP Database on HostGator

I have a Wordpress blog hosted on HostGator. I recently bought another blog and uploaded it to the same hosting account.

However, when I imported the database of the new blog I accidentally put it over the old blog because they had the same name and I didn't realize it. So now my old blog is not working.

Is there any way to get it back?

It has two years of posts on it so I really don't want to lose it!

I hope you did a backup (i.e. exporting) of the old database before you started to mess with it. If you have the backup copy - just delete the existing tables from the database and import (aka restore) your previous blog.

If you didn't make a backup copy of your DB, try to ask your host urgently about it; most hosts do some weekly backups at least.

Other than that... sorry, I don't know of any solution once a DB has been deleted.

The Pension Guy is right, if you have not made any backup of your files then there is nothing much you can do about it.

I was afraid that was going to be the answer. No, I was stupid and didn't do a back up first. I'll ask my host if they can do anything.

To avoid such incidents in the future, you might want to start using backupwordpress free WordPress plugin on all your blogs. You can set automatic weekly backups that will be stored in your web space and optionally be mailed to your email address.

If your hosting company does not have a backup there may be a way of accessing your old content for a time consuming copy and paste restore.

Use Google's cache before it gets overwritten or deleted
Use the site: and your domain address enquiry to get all the indexed pages listed and call up the cached copy of each.

If this fails use the Internet waybackmachine and look at its cache of your site.

Slow I know, but in an emergency a way of getting at your old content so you can load it again.

Hostgator will more than likely have a backup but you need to act quick. I was charged $15 I think when one of my sites went down when I was trying to update software and I couldn't get my backup to work.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate all the help.

Hostgator was able to restore it for me and I didn't lose anything because they happened to do a backup the day before, and I hadn't updated since then anyway. It cost me $15 but that was definitely worth it.

I'll check out "backupwordpress" as was mentioned.
