what is the best way to place banner ads on a site?

INTERNET MARKETING

Is 160 x 600 on the right hand side okay? Or 728 x 90 as header? Or a combination of header and side. I am only promoting one product and not several. I also dont want it to become spammy. What ad placement will yield the maximum benefit? Pls advise?

Yeah you should split test your banners. But i don't think sidebar banners convert too well, a leaderboard or in-text banners would be the best choice imo.

I do good with both sizes, but the 728 x 90 usually does better. The only way to know what is going to work best for your site is to test them both.

300*250 works best for me. And I agree that banners at the top of the webpage and in between content perform much better than banners at a bottom of a webpage and on the side.

  What I have found works better is inside the content: one after post title, another one in the middle of the article and a third one at the end of the article. I don´t even bother with placing banners on sidebars as those rarely get clicks for me. I think it has to do with all the mobile traffic that is going on right now. Those users zoom into the content and so are basically blind for the sidebars.

I personally like the 728 x 90 banners better. Get's noticed instantly as someone visits your page, and if your banner is enticing enough, they just might click on it. This has always outpulled for me more than any other layout.

In the right hand side 750*150 and in top 90*450 are always the best. They convert more conversions.

The sizes that are the most effective are the 336x280 large rectangle, the 300x250 medium rectangle, the 728x90 leaderboard, and the 160x600 wide skyscraper.
