Starting a Affiliate Network

I'm looking to start an Affiliate Network and I'm looking for advice. I have seen a few other posts in the past about this topic but most are a few years old and times change.

I have the capabilities to do it financially, I can code all of it myself, I will probably bring in a designer since that's not my arena, and I firmly believe I can make a better network.

Any advice?

    What kind of affiliate network?
    PPC? PPD? Similar to Clickbank?

How do you know there is sufficient demand for what you're proposing? Have you done your market research?

If you have, then you will understand what aspects of affiliate marketing you should be addressing. You will know what potential subscribers want and what they could care less about.

Asking advice from a public forum will get you all kinds of suggestions - many of them bad.

      Good luck to you,

You'll have to come up with some unique features i think to make it work.

Also a good advertising budget would be a big plus.

But if you have the capabilities to create a great platform then everyhting is possible.

    Good luck!

I made the mistake of being vague. Similar to CJ or SAS. CPA model not PPC. I have done the research and I do see room for what I want to offer.

I will say I do have something really different than the competition. I have solved a few of the biggest complaints that many affiliates make. I'll let your imaginations run wild on that one, because I won't say what they are till I'm up and running. A couple are pretty amazing.

I have connections to a few large merchants which I'm confident I can sign up enough of them to get this off to the right start.

I hooked up with a affiliate marketer that has a list of 20K affiliates that I can market to. I'm sure I can get some affiliates from that list to sign up.

I guess some of the things I wanted to know more from affiliates perspective:
      - What are your issues with some of the networks? (no need to name names)
      - What is a feature you wish these networks had?
      - Is PayPal really needed as a payment option?
      - Is payouts every 2 weeks (if they reaches a certain amount), reasonable to purpose?
      - Digital goods, I'm still on the fence. I like them because there is a lot of sales but there is also alot of charge backs on digital goods. And I don't want to handle payment processing like CB does, that adds another layer of complication. So would it be a good idea not allow any digital goods or go the hybrid approach?

Two schools of thought on your very last point about digital products.

You would limit your scope a lot by only allowing non digital goods in your affiliate network, however you may also be setting yourself up as a niche within affiliate networks, perhaps.. I haven't done the research.

If you were then your marketing focus would be on quality of sales, less chargebacks, higher commissions maybe, those sorts of things, just don't be another me too company.
