Is This an Effective Way to Build a List?

I want to build a list of opt-ins. I'm going about doing this by advertising in Google Adwords' content network.

I'm going to send them to a landing page with a 30 minute video introducing myself and my product and then I'm going to entice them to opt-in for a "freebie."

I don't feel like that is enough. Should I be doing something else in addition to adwords?

Is it really possible to build a huge opt-in list within a month like many of the IM gurus claim without whoring myself and begging for jv's when I have nothing to offer them?

If you're a list building guru please give me advice as well as others who will be reading this thread.

Rule number one for any internet marketer...
DO NOT PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET

I say this because you only mentioned one way to drive traffic to your landing page. There are honestly HUNDREDS of ways to drive traffic to your landing pages and over 95% of them are FREE!

As per your 30 min video I really do not think you will find one person that will sit there and watch your full video for 30 min. Cut it down to 3 min and slam it full of great information and leave them hanging wanting more. All the more reason for them to optin to your list. When they do opt in then send them to your 30 min video.

The way I see it, you are pretty much bribing and begging no matter how you look at it. I personally think that a 30 minute video is a bit much. I for one, would not sit and watch the whole thing.

Thanks for replying. Solo ads scare me though. I have heard a lot of bad stories and lack of results.

The "eggs in one basket" is great advice which is why I am seeking you all's great advice. The reason I mentioned a 30 minute video is because if done right, it can really work. I get stuck watching Frank Kern's 45 minute videos every time he releases a new one, and then I watch them over and over again. But at the same time... I do agree with you.

A 30 minute video probably won't help generate opt-ins. What you're talking about is pretty much the classic squeeze page. Adwords (search, not the content network) is just about the easiest and most expensive way to generate opt-ins. Look at various and sundry email submit offers to get an idea of what works. An effective email submit lander can generate an opt-in ratio between 5 and 25% which can translate to paying $5 to $25 per opt-in with Adwords.

30 minute video? ..wow, that is a long time. Many internet users will not sit and watch an ad for even 30 seconds...You should cut it short and get straight to the point.
