Starting an IM related site and thinking of using .IM in domain?

Hi All,

I am thinking of an Internet Marketing related site discussing my discourses on SEO, PPC, Conversion, Affiliates, etc.

Although I will be branding the main name I would like to take the prefix .IM into consideration? what would be your thoughts on this?

Partially, I am sick and tired of thinking search engine first when it comes to a site traffic build, but at the same time do not want to be naive. If it will be hugely detrimental I will stick to a .com or .co.uk

your thoughts?

Well if you eventually want to get some free traffic from the search engines then a .com is still the best choice.

In a couple of months / years you might regret going the .im route, that's all i can say about that...

Yeah, gut tells me to be risky LOL. But the sound thing is to play nice with Google

Yeah even if you don't pay attention to Seo what so ever, in due time you will still get some nice free targeted traffic from the odd long tail kywords if you have quality content.

That's when you'll use a .com, if you use a .im that won't happen unfortunately.

But who knows what will happen in Seo right?

I have seen only .com , .org , .net domains rank higher on Google. Most high traffic sites have also these TLDS.

There are lots of extensions launched. But I don't think so it is the right time to take any risk.
You should go for a .com domain. It will get you more traffic and authoiry all over the world.

You mean the .im extension, I think, not the "prefix"?

It'll be handy if you want to rank a site in the Isle of Man, I suppose ...

You need .co.uk and hosting located inside the UK if you want to maximize your rankings on google.co.uk searches at the expense of your ranking on google.com searches; otherwise you need an international TLD.

I don't really care about SEO at all, but I wouldn't fancy it, myself. I'd be concerned that most people don't even know what it is, and that I'd lose some traffic, and so on. If you want to try it, at least register the .com as well, even if all you do with it is rediect it to the .im you're using.

Please excuse me if I totally missed your point: your description of this as a "prefix" confused me.
