Are domain brokers needed?

A domain I would really like to buy just went up for sale after several years of it launching. Looking at the $900 price tag, I don't think they will just let any old schmuck off the street purchase it. I have to show that I am a serious buyer.

My question is that If I am a serious buyer, do I need to go through a broker or is there another method to show my interest professionally? If I do have to go through a broker, what is the best one to go through? I know on there domain they have a Sedo inquire form.

You don't need to use a broker if you use a website like flippa or use escrow.com to secure your transaction. I just sold my original website for $5,500 on Flippa and had no problems with the transaction.

The most important thing to the buyer is getting the money and the most to you is getting the domain. Escrow helps by getting the money from the buyer first and then requiring the seller to transfer the domain and paying the seller when that is complete.

Ok but what if he did not list it on Flippa or Escrow? Will the owner be offended if I ask him to put it on one of those sites so I can buy it? I am looking for the most professional way to show this buyer I am interested without losing the chance to buy the domain.

$900 price tag is not big to domain sellers.
They will let anyone purchase it as long as seller don't think buyer may be a scammer.

Why would seller think it's not professional way simply because you don't use broker?
I sell domains and most of my domain sales are not thru broker.

Send email to domain owner and say you want to buy the domain using escrow.com.

Yes just make them a proposal to use escrow and you should be able to purchase it if it's a fixed price.

I have bought some domains before using escrow and the seller never made any fuss about it so that's a good option.

So is escrow.com a domian marketplace or just a place for people to do domain transactions? (Escrow is not showing up on my computer right now)

Still not working for me for some reason. It might just be a problem with my cookies or something. I will definitely look into it later.

No broker needed (unless you want to protect yourself of course). They will gladly accept your money. Happens daily.

I wouldn't pay the $900 though. Domains usually have room for a lot of negotiation priced into them.

Knowing this entrepreneurs track record, he is very firm on his price. It is well worth the $900 to me. I have the money and its really no big deal.

I'm a broker (and large portfolio owner) but if they already have a firm fixed price you don't need any, just use Escrow.com or Sedo.com (external transfer is 3% , not 15% , but cannot be used while listed there).

I just make them an offer. If they are firm and you want to buy it, tell them. No broker needed, but I might use escrow.com to protect both parties.

I think they'll let someone with $900 buy it, regardless of whether he's a schmuck off the street.

You show that by offering $900 and having your money ready to pay by escrow.

No. Your money is what matters. If you can't buy it through some kind of escrow service, then don't pay, because it isn't safe to buy. You don't need a broker.
