I talked to a auto repair shop owner today and he said that he would really be interested in a service to where a day before his clients appointments are due a text message will go out to remind them of their appointments. I was thinking about this and docto's, lawyers, hair dressers etc can also benefit from something like that. Do you guys know of such a service or how to set it up? Cheers |

I don't know if a service like this exists yet. But it certainly wouldn't be too hard to set up. Typically, you can send an SMS message to a cell using email. Most big providers have a special domain just for this. So if your cell # is 555-5555, and your carrier is T-Mobile...then an e-mail sent to 555-5555@tmobile.com would send an SMS text to that phone number. I think something like this could be set up quite easily, even just using Outlook. |

I understand that you can collect phone numbers and send broadcast text but I was wondering if this whole process can be automated

Yes of course! I use a service called mobilestorm as the backend to all of my text message marketing projects. It certainly has this ability. |

| TeleVox | housecalls, automated appointment reminders, test results, on hold, messages, labcalls, tlink, web design does this. It is the service used by nearly every major doctor and hospital in the industry. One of my clients uses it and it's very, very impressive. |

Yes, there is. I don't know what he uses but my Dentist shoots me an email and a text message as a reminder. And another email, and another text looking for confirmation. Ed |

Hi Jan Yes there is a service out there that does this and more. I just closed a WSO that covered this subject. As far as using Outlook be careful. The laws in the U.S. require mandatory opt-in and easy opt-out as do the Major Carriers as well. "Recipients (including obtaining any required consents from the Recipients) and the content, timing and purpose of all Messages, campaigns and programs are in compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations) Bottom Line Be careful what you tell your Clients unless they have obtained verifiable permission from their customers to receive commercial SMS Text Messages and have an easy opt-out system in place they shouldn't be broadcasting SMS. Hope this helps. All The Best Paul |

There are scripts you can install on your server that will do this for you ... It's called a "Reminder Service" Now you could go pickup a cheap script and have it modified if need be.. Prozilla :: Turnkey Websites, Online website builder - They have turnkey websites and if I remember (it's been years since I seen the site) they do have a php script that is a reminder service. You could also search Hot Scripts - The net's largest PHP, CGI, Perl, JavaScript and ASP script collection and resource web portal. Keep in mind not everyone uses a cell phone also so you want something that will send to email as an option... I know many think billions of people have cell phones but this is not the case.. Yes many do but there are also many that do not... James |

It may be important to check the legalities. I know that verizon basic plans charge .10 a text message and people may not want to receive a text message. Debbie |

The company that I gave uses a opt-in format So, each customer requested the information before it was sent out very similar to autoresponders. |

I think you could do something like this with Google calendar. I just had a look and you could add them as a guest and just add an event. You can choose when and what time to email them. If you want to test it send me your email in a pm and I will do one to test it for you. Quentin |
