Video on a business homepage - what are my options?

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of developing a website for my social media marketing/management business.

I am looking to have a video on my homepage to explain the benefits of using social media and why it is important for businesses.

I am in the process of having a script written for this but I am stuck between a few options for the next steps.

I could do one of the following:

1) Create a whiteboard animation video with a voice over
2) Have someone simply say the script in front of a camera in an appropriate setting.

Which would you recommend for a social media marketing business? I am leaning towards the whiteboard animation because they are usually pretty interesting to watch and are a little bit more exciting.

Also are there any options besides these two?

Many thanks

I would definitely go with the animation. It would have more impact because you can show graphs and charts as well as samples as to what will be done.

      It's really whatever you choose.

However, what is the design of your site? People connect with people, not businesses. So it would better to put YOU in front of a camera, but a spokesperson could work also.

It's also a good idea to put you in the design of the site, preferably in in the header graphic. If you have that, you could get away with doing a whiteboard animation video.

I've spent YEARS online and have also spent A LOT of money online. I've invested in marketing courses over $1,000. Some examples:

      1. Ali Brown's "Online Success Blueprint": $1,500 each. (I bought it twice.) Jeff Walker's "Product Launch Formula": $2,000

      2. I've paid my business coach $3,000, $7,000, $1,000 and $1,500 respectively for individual coaching programs.

Believe me, you don't spend that kind of money without feeling like you know that person and trust them.

Actually seeing those people, both in photos and in videos, is key to feeling like I knew them, which in turn made me comfortable spending money with them.

It's a little nuance most Warriors don't think about, but it makes a BIG difference. When you see a real person's face (either in a photo and/or a video), the connection immediately and subconsciously becomes more personal. And people become more willing to spend more and bigger money with you.

Try the whiteboard animation video if you like. But put your photo on the site. Test a video of YOU vs. the whiteboard. Look at the results long-term.

      And go from there.

      Hope that helps!

I agree with this. You don't even need to be on camera that long, just enough that they know you are a real person. And, as long as your hand writing is not so bad, order a whiteboard and do your "animation" right in front of them. My only advice, please please please get even a cheap lapel mic you can wear so you have decent audio. Nothing destroys credibility more then junky audio...

    Hey,

I would definitely recommend that you use an animated video with a voice over on your homepage. It will be much more engaging and entertaining for your audience when they visit your site. You can get one of these videos made easily over at fiverr.

Also, I went and found this article that gives some tips/benefits of using animated videos on your site.

Hope this is of great help to you!

There's a number of other options, such as PowerPoint and Powtoon.com for example.

You can also make a combination of your two ideas, editing back and forth between a spokesperson and a whiteboard, giving your video the "action" of a whiteboard plus the personalization of a spokeperson.

Either will do - it just depends how comfortable you feel about delivering a piece to camera, and/or what your budget is. Obviously a whiteboard or short animation is going to work out cheaper that hiring a crew to shoot a piece to camera. You can always try and film it yourself, but be careful. A poor quality video could do mare harm than good.

I'm not a fan of on-screen speakers personally, because there are so many tiny factors that can turn a person off. They decide within a few seconds whether they like you or not, and that instinct isn't always based on logic.

Whiteboards work, but they can also be distracting. You don't want to pull away from your message, either.

I prefer using animated text that transitions in a cool way, while remaining static during the spoken script. It's a nice balance between not being boring and not being distracting.

Personally, I would go with the whiteboard video option.

As others have already pointed out, these tend to be very engaging and more likely to get visitors to actually spend a little time on your website.

The only way I would consider talking on camera is if you're naturally comfortable speaking in front of a camera, but most people aren't.

For that personal touch, I have found that having a picture of yourself on your website (such as your "about us" page) as well as on your social media profiles obviously, is sufficient.

The whiteboard animated videos tend to be more popular these days, so it would be a better choice, especially if you could back it up with a voice-over.

Animated videos tend to be more captivating, so they'll usually keep your audience's attention longer. Personally, though, I tend to think that whiteboard videos are everywhere, but that's just the internet marketer in me talking probably. I don't like to do what everyone else is doing, I like to be different. There's really nothing wrong with it, though, so don't think it's a criticism. Your audience may have never see them, and they can be pretty professional-looking.
