best way to send email newsletter

I need to know the best way to send our newsletter reliably. We have an opt-in list of about 40,000 that we send a monthly newsletter to. Up to now we have been using worldcast via the regular mailserver at one of our webhosts. But this is sometimes very slow and intermittant.

The newsletter file size is small, the difficulty is the size of the list. It would be very expensive with something like Aweber.

So how do the 'big guns' send to thier lists? It's one thing if you're going to make XXX amount every time you send it and then maybe you can justify what some of these dedicated email companies charge (600 to 800 bucks a month is what I have seen from some companies that do such a service). But most of our newsletter subscribers are very occasional buyers.

Is there an economical way to do this?

Multiple Google searches have turned up either exhorbitantly expensive services or ones with apallingly low monthly limits.

Many thanks,
trillian

Often there are added package to these products that handle specific tasks such as bounces. I personally like qMAIL. It has gotten very fast in the last few years.

    Aweber
    GetResponse
    ConstantContact

Services are king, if you are gonna make a business out of your niche it's essential. Don't even bother trying to host it yourself.

I dont have 40,000 yet but I use aweber and agree that it is much easier to leave it to the professionals to send your newsletters.

If you have a 40,000 (or any size list) you want to import into a professional system that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg then I highly recommend Get Response.

Personally I use aWeber but they will not allow you to import a list of that size unless you have ample proof of how you built that list (i.e. didn't scrape it).

So in this situation I suggest Get Response...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. So far Getresponse looks the best in terms of value for money. The email software simply won't help us because even when we do a blast out to, say 4,000 , most of our ISPs limit us to like 400 per hour so do the maths.

We have one ISP that does not impose limits, however, they are just generally unreliable (down at the moment as a matter of fact).

      Cheers,
