Wordpress vs. Squidoo

Where are you hosted? Have you used any caching tools to try to speed up your site? I can't imagine that the issue is with WordPress if you only have 10 articles.

Great ways to speed up wordpress blog would be:
W3 total cache
Simple website design

For the videos is it hosted on your website? Maybe submit it to google and embed the video to your website.

Squidoo is not your own site, that you own and control. Don't let any part of your business depend on it. Even some of the Warriors who (a couple of years ago) were selling WSO's based on advising people how to use Squidoo are now - finally! - openly telling people not to.

BizOnTheWeb, I have a caching plugin, but to no avail. The fiverr guy was going to install WP Super cache, but I was told it was a hosting issue and he cancelled the gig.

The video's are from youtube. I just enbedded them.

I am using a host called WebHost4life.

I just heard back from the fiverr gig and he said that he couldn't do a full scan/check of the site because the dashboard was SO SLOW, that it would've taken hours to scan. Confusing.

Wordpress shouldn't load too slowly with only ten post. Make sure that you don't have too many plugins loading content from outside sources. Follow me plugins are slow because you have to wait for each Social Media platform to load. For speed just create links to your SM accounts. Also, if you use large images this can slow you down as well. It's better to edit the image to the size you want manually. It will load faster than using the WP options to resize the image.

I won't recommend using Squidoo to publish anything.

The downfall of using Squidoo is that you don't own the lens and it can be taken down without your consent. This is why you should publish your stuff on platforms you own and are in control of.

Have you contacted your hosting company to inquire whether they're having a downtime ?!
Give your plugin's another look and remove the no-so-useful ones. You don't need every plugin in the book to succeed.

If everything is fine ad you're still experiencing this, you should definitely consider shifting to a more reliable host. BlueHost and HostGator have good reputation in the hosting industries.

Although the above doesn't state it, Derp Hacks I think have been DDOS them for some reason.

As has been previously noted, with only 10 posts it almost certainly has to be a problem with your host. Have you contacted their support desk? If not I'd start there, then if they do anything but solve the problem, or point you in the right direction to solve it I'd switch hosting providers immediately.

The number of posts does not make as much of a difference and themes and plugins, though the one variable of a database would be slightly faster, it is probably more about how responsive the server is when being connected.

OP.
Try this, remove all widgets and images, then go to a simple theme, to see if that helps. If it does put one item back at a time until it is slow again.

Install WP super cache <<<<<<<

With wordpress usually your dealing with 2 servers, one is the database, one is your website, wp supercache will access the database less, and could help a lot.

Also you can ping your web servers response time.

Go here and run a loading test and see what element is causing your site to load so slow: Website speed test

With only 10 articles you should not be bogged down. Send a ticket to your host's support team and let them know you're having load time issues as well.

Sorry if I sound terribly rude here, but this really is absolutely appalling advice. It's painfully, dreadfully bad. It may damage the businesses of people who take notice of it. See post #4 (and many others) above.

Mike, who is your host?

Also....

1. Have you always had this issue? When did it start?

2. Did you notice it started after you made certain changes/installations (plugins, etc)? Also consider plugin updates; an update could have introduced severe bugs not previously available. This could have messed up your site's loading speed and efficiency.

3. I have seen an issue lately where users get the following error: "Your account has been temporarily restricted" as soon as they log into their hosting account.

This is usually caused by a random script weighing too heavily on the site. So, log on to your account if you haven't done so as of late, and see if you can spot that error. Then try to disable/delete one plugin at a time, starting with the most suspicious ones.

P.S. And by all means, consider WP Super Cache.

I personally stopped using Squidoo when they started changing the rules year ago. Instead, I would recommend that you continue publish stuff on your own sites as well as get some cache plugin. It's kind of odd that your site is slow to load with such little content. It's possible that Wordpress isn't the issue.

WordPress is one of the best blogging platform. Sometimes when you are using a lot of plugins will slow down your blog speed and performance. I don't know if you have a bunch of plugins installed. If yes, then remove some of them or you can consider to change your hosting provider.

With only 10 posts you shouldn't be having a problem with Wordpress, and you definitely DON'T need a dedicated server.

I currently have about 30 sites, all on normal shared hosting, and most have more than 10 posts (with videos as well) and Wordpress works fine. It sounds like you might have a problem with one of your plugins or maybe your theme?

Like others have said you definitely don't want to surrender your business to Squidoo. It doesn't rank anywhere near as well as it used to, and Squidoo are so strict about their content there's no guarantee you won't get your page deleted by them.

Firstly, stay sell away from Squidoo. You aren't in control of your own content with them and they can obviously pull the plug at anytime.

Quite a few of the web 2.0 sites are becoming pretty hostile places at the moment because of tiered link building spam, I wouldn't fancy trusting them with anything important!

Best to stay as you are now with your own hosting.

If you want an actual web dev / server guy to look at the site drop me a PM. I don't know what the fiverr guy was doing running "tests" on your server - it doesn't take tests, it takes a guy with experience and a good working knowledge of everything to make a diagnosis.

Although it sounds like you have rubbish hosting at a glance IMHO.

I was a huge Blogger fan when I started out. The interface was so easy to work with and it was pretty much everything that I needed. As my blogs progressed, there were things I needed more that Blogger didn't have so I had to use Wordpress and Squidoo alternately at different times. Each one is just as good as the other depending on your needs.

I agree with Elvis, the problem is definitely your hosting provider. Even on a host that charges less than $10 per month, a site that small should have no problems loading. Either that I would change your theme to something faster. I use swift theme personally and its free and very fast. Some wordpress themes are notoriously slow to load.

I Think you should use Simple Storage Service from Amazon to upload your file or video instead of hosted on your own server.

Squidoo Lense also same as WP as it has a webpage that can be optimized same principle as WP itself.

Your host is at fault or maybe you are using too many plug ins as suggested before. Whatever the issue, you should move to another self hosted site. Posting your content on Squidoo is like building your castle on shifting sands. Never a solid way to build a business.

Wordpress is one of the best platforms for blogging. There can't be any reason for the blog to run slow if:

1. You have employed an extremely heavy theme

2. You are using any plugin that makes the site slow

Even if you put hundred articles, the site should not run slow. Try re-installation of Wordpress.

I use BlueHost and I haven't faced any loading issues till date. if your site is slow, then it's your web host. The web host you mentioned is relatively unknown in the web hosting arena so I'm not surprised to learn that your site is slow.

Best piece of advice - switch hosts.

webhost4life sounds familiar like 1990s familiar. if I remember right I had them and left due to poor support and slow servers. they would often take them down if I remember right. try a new hosting bluehost, or liquid.

Are you even sure that you still own the content or articles once posted to Squidoo? With eHow, they can take your content, once paid for and distribute any way they want. Maybe this is true on Squidoo, where they say you are the author, but what does the fine print say? If you want to take your articles off of Squidoo, will you be legally allowed to publish on any other article sharing site or your own blog? These are questions that have to be considered when choosing whether or not to use Squidoo or Wordpress.

It's like comparing apples and oranges. Wordpress and Squidoo are two different media but has somehow hit the crosswords on a few similar purposes. However, if you want to be an authority in a specific niche online, I suggest you have your own blog and brand on.

You don't really need a dedicated server to improve your site's speed. You can use Cloudflare (with WP plugin) and other minor tweaks to get your speed up. With just about 10 blog posts, you shouldn't have any problem. I highly suggest these hosts: Hosting24 (I personally use this), Hostgator and Bluehost. For 4 years I've never had any problem with Hosting24, and they've got great customer support team.

You should always own the ground you stand on and this is especially true when posting your content online. With your own site, you can regulate what ads are shown or what you write, that's not going to be true on Wordpress.com or Squidoo where they can take your articles down without notice or just because.

I used to see Squidoo Lenses and Hubpages all over page one a couple of years ago. Not anymore and i am not even sure if they work like they used to.

If I were you I would test my website using https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ and find out what's slowing me down.

check your plugins
change hosting
change the wp theme
change the fiverr guy

with only 10 post it should load super fast ,unless you have to big images or to heavy videos
but i guess ask your hosting people to check why is loading slow
wp cache plugin is great but it should load fast even without

I am not a technical expert but it sounds like your hosting. I have lots of websites with videos embedded and don;t have this problem, I use hostgator so why not change. I never trust any business with a number in the name!
