Purchasing affiliate products directly from website

Hi all.

A quick question:

I'd like for my website visitors to purchase products (in this case book a trip) directly from my website using a feed from the product owners website.

I've seen this done before on a few sites, where you click a link to buy a product and you are immediately taken to a the affiliates checkout page.

Are these XML feeds, or retail feeds? Just wondering what I should be asking/looking for.

Thanks.

You will probably need to contact the product owner to figure out if they want that.

They may not want you to direct link to a checkout page. Maybe you're not representing their product clearly. Maybe they want control. etc. etc.

There are some ways to direct link to products with most affiliate networks without the owner knowing...but...I would recommend talking to the person/business first.

    Why?

I think you mean the "vendor's" checkout page, rather than the "affiliate's", don't you?

    Yes, it can be done.

I know you didn't mention ClickBank, but just in case you were thinking of a ClickBank product, you might want to be aware that you need the vendor's permission to do this (and can even lose your ClickBank account, if you don't have that) and that if you "sell" the product on your own site and then send your traffic directly from there to the vednor's payment-page, you wouldn't be setting your affiliate cookie on your prospective customers' computers.

Yes sorry, I did mean the vendors checkout page.

I'd think being able to book directly from my site would increase conversions quite a lot.

And no this isn't for clickbank, this is for a well known travel site that sells tickets to attractions. I've seen this particular vendor provide this service for another website, but I just didn't know what the function or term used is.

Obviously I intend to ask them first as I am already an affiliate with them.

It really depends on their setup. With iDev (which we use to power our affiliate program), you can create custom deep links. The code to drop a cookie is on our cart so we allow our affiliates to create custom deep links right to our cart. I'm not saying everyone has this sort of setup, but I would certainly contact the merchant to see if it's possible.
