What forum software does this forum use?

Can this software do reputation points and user progression?

Was gonna use the myBB software but wonder if I should go with something else.

You'll need to give a lot more information than that, before anyone can possibly advise you helpfully or sensibly. I use phpBB 3.x, myself, and have found it absolutely fine for all the parameters that matter to me; I have no intention of switching, and would happily use it again if ever I start or buy another forum. There isn't one, objective, "best forum software", in other words: it depends on your needs and plans.

What I would want out of a forum is number of features, clean modern design, support, etc.

      Cheers 4 the info.

It's what exactly you mean by "etc." that will enable anyone to answer you helpfully. Without that, all that anyone can do is "tell you what kind of forum software they happen to like", and that doesn't really help at all, does it?

    You can exclude etc.

Looking for feature rich, customizable, clean. modern, good support forum software.

Whenever I see this type of forum I never see reputation points. Only thanks.

One of my main sports team uses this exact forum software as well.

The mechanism is the same. You can change the word "thanks" to "reputation points" or whatever you want.

Not quite the same as the rep system I am talking about people can leave comments along with the rep point ie "Great info on x"

More personal and meaningful than a simple thank you button click if you know what I mean.

Yes, I know. You can do that with vBulletin, too. (They have that at AbsoluteWrite, which is also vBulletin).

I like XenForo better than vBulletin for the alerts system. Makes it a lot easier to follow discussions. I found vBulletin 3 a lot easier to host than either of them, and I'm not sure I want to bother with the overhead any more, which has me exploring phpBB. I think I'd use that one if I were just starting. I also frequent a couple of forums that use IP.Board, which is fine, too. Any of the major forum software functions largely the same, just with each having some different features.

My personal preference is actually Invision Power Board. vBulletin came up really short in my opinion with their last big release (not just my opinion...read about it on the interwebs).

xenForo is nice ... lightweight and fast but lacking some of the community features that make your site..well..a community. The marketplace of plug-ins is also just not as big yet.

Certainly Invision and vBulletin are the two big paid options. If you're looking for free/open source, phpBB and SMF are also options. I like SMF. phpBB got a bit of a bad rap for security but it is now a open source project with an extensive community.

All that said, again, my recommendation is Invision if your budget allows.

i think i might just go with mybb as i like its features and look.

once my forum gets big or active then maybe think about switching to a paid software.
