I saw a webinar where the IMers were selling an "Inner Circle" programme for $197 pm. One of the things they taught on the webinar as an inducement to get into the Inner Circle was a free traffic technique.

This involved buying domain names that are misspelt and relying on people who are searching the net to enter the misspelt domain name and land on your site through having entered the mis spelt domain name.

An example they gave was kim Kardashian...(now I have no clue how to spell that, in fact I went to Google, started typing it in top get the correct spelling)... They are saying that most people who are searching for kim Kardashian will not know how to spell it and will enter the incorrect spelling. If you have an Exact Match Domain (EMD)... you will pick up that traffic.

Now the flaws I see in this are for starters Google gives little credence to EMDs but that's another story, there are many ways to misspell Kardashian so which misspelling would you pick? You can't go too wrong with the word kim which brings me to the point of this concept/training/product or whatever, and that is Google will fill in the correct spelling for you!

You don't even get to the end of Kim before Google suggests Kim Kardashian.

Another example they gave was Messi Shoes and that a lot of people only put in one "s". It does not matter Google will fix it for you.

But a lot of people actually start typing in the url fields at the top they argued. But once again IT DOES NOT MATTER Google corrects the spelling.

Am I just being a FIGJAM here or do you agree? Let me know.

That inner "circle" is "square". Forget it and find something proper.

While Chrome definitely dominates the browser market, not everyone uses Chrome, just as not everyone uses Google as their search engine. The advice given in the webinar is not completely invalid as I am sure you will get some traffic here and their as many inexperienced users still type in what they want followed by .com in the address bar not knowing any better. Imagine all of the traffic sex.com gets just because people type that in to the address bar.

Selling to or converting freebies with inexperienced people might also be easier as they just don't know any better in my opinion.

I did? Well Google would have corrected me OR I could have subscribed to an inner circle for $197 and learnt how I could profit from that mis-spelling.

FIGJAM? "**** I'm Good Just Ask Me"

This worked some time ago. It's not the first time I hear it.

But based on my own behavioral habits, I tend to say that it is not working anymore.

As you've said, it will autocomplete and there are way too many variations to actually make this pay.

And then you get this traffic and do what with it?

How do you monetize someone who was trying to go to Kim Kardashians (who?) website?

Some people do type direct into the browser and just hit enter rather than use the suggest feature but it hardly seems like a great way to get traffic. You'd need tons of different offers for all the different sites that were related.

In IM everything works. If you can do it right you can win. But I think the procedure you are thinking to develop a website with a misspelled domain name can not ensure a good amount of money. But surely it does.

An example is eleganthemes.com and elegantthemes.com

P.S. those example websites are solely for giving you an idea.

    Thanks
