Monetising a big website! need help

I currently run a decent sized website. As of now it receives about 150k unique visitors and 300k pageviews. It makes me about $50 total.. which is crazy to me. It costs more to host the site and am looking for some advice to monetize it.

I had tried adsense, that made $50-$75 a month, we are currently trying out content.ad but seems to be doing worse. What are some good content advertisers?

The website has young viewers who don't really have money so charging money isn't really an option. The site posts funny pictures, memes, vines, videos, and GIFs every day.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is all the content grabbed from other sources?

A few things you could try to increase earnings...

    1. Try adding some CPA offers to the site. I'm thinking specifically ones geared towards Facebook/online games since you're dealing with a younger crowd of people.

    2. Why not sell direct ad space on the site? Hell I'm sure you can get 4-5 people paying you $250 a month (or more) to have their youtube channel featured on the site.

    3. You could also try playing with your adsense positioning. Not seeing the site I can't really offer you much suggestion but in playing with the layout of the site and ads you can really increase your earnings.

These are all good suggestions. I was going to suggest selling ad space as well. Since your niche seems to be comedy/entertaining, you are a part of a massive group who is desperate for more eyeballs.

We would love to sell ads directly but cannot find advertisers. What are some good advertising networks that can match us with advertisers?

It is painful that we have all this traffic and are going negative every month... Any money at this point would be great.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have heard of this happening before. If you have a very young visitor profile they won't always have direct access to a credit card. So they are not good buyers.

I'd do what has been suggested above.

You might also want to build an emailing list either to drive visitors back to your site on a regular basis or have sales offers in your emails.

150k visitors!! God i'd love to have 10% of that coming to some of my sites. I agree with theideas so far as without seeing your site it's impossible to be more specific.

I believe there are ways to include ads in your images. And if your videos are hosted on your own site you can include pre-roll ads which run before each video plays.

I sent in a request to become a part of the buysellads network and see where that takes me. I know there is tons of opportunity to make money but can't find advertisers.

My viewers are young that don't want to pay for things and don't have money anyways. I know ads is going to be my best bet but I need a way to have ads on the site consistently.

I have tried pay-per-click but it just doesn't work out well. The viewers are young, tech savy kids who hate ads, and definitely don't click them. My last adsense, I had 3 ads, and I got 100 clicks out of 350,000 pageviews. I know I could optimize the ads a little more but they stick out like sore thumbs regardless.

We are now building an email list and will see where that takes us but really need a quick solution to make some money. With all these visitors our server is costing more than we actually make a month.

Just because young people don't have money doesn't mean that advertisers aren't looking to reach them. e.g., video game creators.

I realize that this isn't what you are seeking here, but would you consider a host that's more accustomed to that kind of traffic? It might be cheaper for you. I can get you hooked up; just let me know.

Try in image ads. I use gumgum but they require a bit more traffic. Luminate is an option with no min. Pageviews requirement.

I really like the suggestion above about a promoting facebook app games.

Also test different adsense placements... that can help.

Also media.net may be a good option.

I have a website where the visitors are young. I placed some CPA ads for 'paid surveys' type of websites. They got a few clicks and a few dollars but the traffic was nowhere near yours. Maybe it will work better for you.

Have tried CPA ads, not very effective due to the large volume of posts the website has every day. About 30 new posts a day so CPA offers get lost in the bunch. We had tried a tshirt and made next to nothing.

Our visitors are "students" so middle school, highschool and possibly some college age kids.

I know there is people that want to reach our viewers but just am not sure how to get in contact with them to place ads on our site. We would give them the best deal they could find...

    You can try these..
    1. Sign up buysellads.com for banner ads.
    2. Start building email list with your website ..
    3. Don't lock your content with CPA offer. Visitors don't like this.
    4. Add Infolinks in your website to monetize your content.
    5. If your visitors are high quantified then try to sell affiliate products which related with your site's content.

I wonder if VigLink would be able to help you monetize a bit.

Even though it is very easy for users to download the image if they want (just right-click), perhaps you could offer a dedicated 'Download' or 'Save Image' button that takes the user to an interstitial ad page before the download starts.

Do you have a lot of social sharing features on your site? I would hope so, for content like yours you need people sharing it with their friends online.

What are your traffic sources? With that much traffic use Adsense and affiliate marketing.

In all honesty, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you need to think long and hard about if you really have a business here.

Your customers have no incomes and not much money.

Perhaps you should be looking at reducing your hosting costs. Perhaps you should be looking at ways of creaming off the older site visitors with money into some sort of site where you can make money from them.

You might be right that there are companies that want to advertise to this group. However, by your own admission this is not easy and I just wonder if your time might be better spent on more profitable ventures.
