What is the best free traffic source

Hi All,

I am preparing some information for my blog which I have researched outside of the forum and i'm still not clear what the majority opinion is..

This question tends to come down to a matter of opinion and sometime people don't consider "TIME" as a resource that has a cost.. Youtube, Yahoo Answers, SEO all have time implications so when considering that, What would be the single best free traffic source in terms of time / cost / payoff?

Thanks for the help.

There is no good place to have some backlinks other that it comes from your own website by creating a quality content. For websites its difficult to have some traffic if the competition is very tough but if your target keyword is not so much then you have the chance. I will give an example, if you type your target keyword on Google then it finds 500k results and 25k people / month looking for this then you have a chance at the top.

Very true. You're paying for traffic, either with money or with time, effort and energy, aren't you?

For me, no kind of traffic - paid or "free" - has ever even come anywhere close to article marketing traffic for attracting highly targeted, responsive, buying traffic. I have some articles "out there" which I wrote as long as 5 years ago which continue to bring me subscribers and money every month.

The type of traffic I'm least interested in attracting (though I do get tons of it, I must admit) is search-engine traffic. Explained here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8659398

But there isn't really one, objective, "best" source of free traffic, is there? It depends on your own skills and business model.

Hi There, Thanks for the comments.

If you are trying to rank for a keyword that is highly searched, does that not make it even harder to rank for that keywords?

Also, I read the post related to the article marketing (Re cauliflowers) Good post.. I also like the idea of article marketing. My issue here though is that The Google algorithm is now frowning on the use of article directories for back links which could then make it counter productive to use them right?? or am I getting something a bit confused here..

It definitely can make it harder to rank for that keyword, but there are creative ways around that. Geo-targeting and thorough keyword research will obviously be your first step around this.

One thing I would add is that there are websites out there that will give you free trials to their backlinking service, so be your own judge.

^^ This, especially when you're just getting started.

SEO is beginning to go back to the old sandbox days where it could take 3 months or more to start getting any decent traffic. I'm not saying give up on SEO, far from it but you have to have a back-up plan for those early months so your site can get the traction (And Links) that it needs.

In those three months you can get good forum accounts set-up, paid membership status and have the beginnings of a decent reputation in your niche. Plus you get the while "Piggyback SEO" benefit too ie: Your site won't rank but your forum posts will.

Another benefit is that people will share your content, that Matt Cutts guy is right about some things!

    Another "impossible to answer" question.

What is the niche and the demographic?

The WF is a good source of "free" traffic for MMO type offers but it is worthless if you are selling something non-MMO related.

    Hey Mike!

If there was a free traffic source where you'd get the most for your time, it would definitely be YouTube.

Obviously, YouTube has blown up and continues to get more and more popular. If you make videos on a consistent basis, even 1 video per day, you will see some major improvement within your business.

    Hope this helps!

I tend to agree with this.

YouTube is good for traffic when you can create a video fairly quickly (in 5 to 10 minutes) then upload it in another 2 to 3 minutes. The cost / benefit ratio (of investing your time) is probably the best of all "free" traffic methods.

An additional benefit is that your video will probably be posted on other sites, as lots of people like to use them on their own blogs (if your video is related to the niche of their blog).

Other "free" traffic methods that work, but tend to be more time-consuming are : posting free ads on CL, Backpage, OLX and other free classified ad sites, Facebook and other social marketing methods, leaving helpful posts on related blogs and forums with your link, etc.

Start following twitter accounts that have synergy with your website. For example I follow travel bloggers and pet bloggers. They then follow me back. Then tweet useful content and updates. I am able to automate tweets with updates from my website of new housesit opportunites. Then your tweets will be retweeted.

Also post images from your website to your Pinterest account. Make them memorable and they will get reposted.

Again link up in linkedin with people in your industry/field and post updates. Same goes for google +_

In order to answer that question I would first try to classify the free traffic methods by categories. SEO and SM (Social Media) would be the top 2 categories. Since both are effective then you would need to choose the one you enjoy the most.

If you choose SEO then the choice would narrow down to blog posting, forums posting, guest posting, Q&A posting and so on..

If you choose choose SM, then you would have the choice between Facebook page, Facebook groups, Twitter, Pinterest and so on...

In my opinion, SM is more effective in getting traffic fast and I would probably put Facebook page at the top of the sub-category list (not posting to FB pages, but creating and promoting your own page).

Social media seems to be heading the charge for fast and targeted traffic. Twitter, Google Plus, You Tube, Facebook and Pintrest among the front runners.

Forum marketing and blog commenting are the weapon of choice for many. Although I know you will need to forget about ranking your website if you are going to use blog commenting to drive free traffic.

I'm sure a combination of the above would be great for business. With only having a certain amount of time that you can allocate to the time consuming practice of driving free traffic, I personally would have to pick one and just run with it.

If you're anything like me, I would have to believe that I made the right choice when I picked rather than just shooting in the dark.

One thing you'll probably realize soon enough is that for an income-producing project "free" traffic can be, in the long run, more costly than paid advertising traffic. The cost in time and manpower to generate traffic by various "free" methods tends to be far greater than coming up with a few hundred dollars and beginning a well planned PPC campaign. You can have the traffic in a week that would take months or years to generate by "free" means. Think of the money you could have made during that time if you had the traffic already coming in.

I'm not saying ignore free marketing, but you'd be wise to consider finding a way to get some paid traffic as well.

YouTube blows away its nearest rival for monthly visitors so I can see why that would be a method of choice. Not 100% but i think the figures are around 1 billion unique monthly visits.

Once you have produced your video or video's what then?? There has to be some technical preparation that helps to get them seen. I know the title and description as well as tags is important but I have done those things with a video before and still the only person to see it was me!!

    • I agree, social media would be your best bet. Simply because you can build up an organic following using what you have right now.

Not sure who your friends are on FB but if you have other high level marketing friends, you can ask them to contribute onto your FB page or group. This way you have a few heavy hitters involved right away.

Then you can follow different top social media trends using hashtags, and you can make relevant posts about those hashtags and how they relate to what you have to offer.

Also another method would be to create a page, buy some likes from Fiverr, then reach out to other people in your niche and perform a method called S4S or shares for shares. This can help you get tons of new likes from people you don't know, and help you build up your social following. Then you simply promote your blogs, content, and products to that following that you built up for free. Might take some time, but I believe that is the best way to use FREE traffic right now on the internet.

      Hope that helps broski.

There are many free traffic sources as you already know and the best traffic source would be the one which gives me the highest return on the time I invest there so it all boils down to what are you selling and which niche you are in. For some, yahoo answers might work wonders but for some it won't be that good. So if you have tried/tested any of the methods on your own niche then its pretty easy to answer the questions by yourself.

But I won't end this post of mine before saying that please do not look at SEO as ONE OF THE FREE methods to generate traffic. SEO is a thing which MUST BE DONE by everyone who have a website and willing to generate traffic to it in long term. You cannot compare the value of pure SEO traffic to other free resources, if you generate SEO traffic, it will be beat them all on quality, sometimes even paid traffic.

        Regards
        Riya

For absolute free traffic, social media is the best bet, especially Facebook and pinterest. Of course there will be a good amount of work involved in building a following, but it won't cost you a dime.

    Thanks for the help.
There's no such thing as "Best Traffic Source". Its always about how targeted the traffic is. Depends a lot on the niche and what your goals are.

For example if you are looking to promote job listings as an affiliate , Linkedin would be the best free traffic option. Again, Pinterest would be a good source for Amazon stuff.

About youtube - you need to spend a considerable amount of time/money to get buying traffic from it.

Yahoo answers - it isn't the same it used to be, thanks to heavy spamming.

Forum posting is indeed a good way to get free traffic. Youtube like others have said as well is another great way.

Create great videos that people will love and they will visit your site.

Google is the best free targeted traffic you can get. It converts the best. You can try youtube and social networks as another option. SEO might seem time consuming, but if you no the tricks, it is the best way to gain massive free traffic.

If you're just starting out... do things that don't scale and reach out to people one by one. (via social media, forums etc.) Drive them to a landing page built for them, and capture their email. They will convert well b/c they are so targeted.

If you have an email list, then motivate your subscribers to share your content.

Free traffic - would you be open to giving up a % in return for a placement on a content provider's site/social media outlet.

Have content provider sign up via jvzoo or a program that handles the commission

If you are selling a product and it for a particular market - you should seek out all the top 100 people via using Google and reaching out to them. (This can be outsource to an intern using a simple Q&A )

Free Traffic placement can be done but in my experience it best to use paid traffic to test what works and what doesn't work.

If lack of money is an issue and must be free - then honestly you need something of value and give it to the one that needs it.

My friend drop a gem and y'all are really sleeping on YouTube as an excellent source of free traffic. Just remove the box and it will become clearer to you.

      Hi Thanks for the comments.

I didn't quite understand the last bit of your post RE:"My friend drop a gem and y'all are really sleeping on YouTube as an excellent source of free traffic. Just remove the box and it will become clearer to you"

Could you please explain your meaning here?

Recently i´ve researched the area and found as many of you already have said, the best FREE traffic you can get is through Youtube, Yahoo Answers, Forums and so on. but really it´s a question IF you have time for it..

it seems that it always stands between TIME and MONEY..

of course time is money but in this case you can get the same amount of traffic for free as you can if you pay for it, but it will take a lot more time..

i use FB for my ads, i´ve started to look into Solo Ads as well but FB is a sure card because of the specifics you can get out of it.
you can "tell" the ad to only show for the exact customer you want.. age, gender, interests, location..

why not test it out? put in a couple of bucks and see where it leads..
that´s what i did a long time ago and i´ve found it extremely efficient!

    hope it helped someone!
