If you're anything like me then your niche blogs can get hammered with spam on a regular basis. Now sure, I assume that most of use anti-spam plugins (like Akismet) but even then you can find the same peristent spammers hitting you day after day. So I just wanted to take a moment to explain a useful technique that may help. Firstly, of course, ensure that every spam comment you get is marked as "spam". However often you will find that a lot of spam originates from a single IP address. I've had dozens in a day on some occasions myself. In this case it is possible to actually "block" anyone using that IP address from accessing your blog, therefore preventing them from hitting you with spam. To do this, start off by grabbing the IP address of the person you want to ban. In this case it is 121.92.139.183. ![]() Next log into your cPanel control panel and look for the "IP Deny Manager" feature. ![]() Then simply type in the IP address you just noted down and click the "Add" button. ![]() That's it! That person then won't be able to access your blog again to spam you. All the best, Richard |

There are 2 WordPress plugins I use that have automatically reduced comment spam from a flood (literally, thousands of comments when a blog is left unattended), to a trickle (maybe one or two per month). I've got a post and links to the free plugins here: How to Stop Blog Spam |
