Article directories and duplicate content

I'm sure this gets mentioned far too many times, apologies if so, I just want to be absolutely clear.

I've been avoiding submitting my articles to places like Ezine because from reading others comments, I gathered that that backlinking strategy wasn't useful any more.

However I've now come across the term 'article syndication', by which you submit your article to ezine and others then submit it to their website.

I was concerned that this would lead to content duplication and I would be punished in the serps for it, however comments from others suggest this isnt true.

Just so I'm clear, I would NOT need to edit my articles before submitting them to Ezine and this wouldn't be a problem in regards to content duplication?

Thanks for any help.

That's correct. The backlinks are worthless. (That was never part of the purpose of submitting to article directories anyway. People just wrongly imagined that it was.)

    No, this is incorrect.

That isn't what "article syndication" refers to. That's an example of "article syndication" but it's a very trivial and comparatively unimportant one, which represents only the last 1% of article syndication. The first 99% is more helpful.

What you're referring to above (dumping a copy of articles in EZA in case anyone else re-published them) is "passive syndication" only. It's an afterthought. It's slow and unreliable. You can't control or influence their syndication, that way. It's better to do it than not to do it, but that's all.

I don't understand how rumor has got round that "article syndication" means putting articles in EZA and waiting for people to re-publish them, but very sadly, somehow it has.

Well, actually, I partly understand: there are a few anti-article-marketing trolls who maliciously and stupidly tell people that "article syndication doesn't work" and that many people who put articles in EZA don't ever get them syndicated at all. The second part is perfectly true, of course (especially if the articles are of poor quality!), and that's what gives these trolls some credibility; but that isn't what "article syndication" refers to, so they're actually talking nonsense. But they still fool some people.

"Content duplication" is an interesting term. Haven't heard that one before!

What it doesn't lead to is "duplicate content" (that refers, in this context, to multiple copies of the same text file within one domain). It's "syndicated content", but it isn't "duplicate content". Technically, it's "content duplication", I suppose, but it isn't "duplicate content" in the sense that worries you.

That's correct. It would be bad and wrong to edit your articles before submitting them to EZA. That would be giving an article directory "unique content", which would make no sense at all.

But, above all, don't imagine that if you try this, you'll be "doing article syndication". That isn't really so. You'll be doing perhaps "the last 1% afterthought of article syndication" only. It isn't a business model in its own right. It isn't even a traffic-generation plan in its own right. So don't get your hopes up for it!

Here's a one-post overview of what article syndication actually is: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5035794

      Hello Alexa.

I've read a few of your posts which have been very informative, so I'm glad you were the first to respond and of course, all of my questions have been answered!

I'll do a bit more research regarding article syndication before I start, I know its not as simple as I stated but I just wanted to get it down in as simple terms as possible. I think the biggest challenge is finding suitable article syndicators, am I right?

In any case, It's good to know that duplicate content isn't a problem.

Different people find different aspects of it a "challenge", I think, depending on what skills they started with. (For some people, it's producing publishable articles that's the problem!). It's a traffic-generation plan for people with some writing skills, really, because it would be pretty expensive to have to buy articles of the quality required.

Those three, and the ones linked to in my post above, should get you oriented, I think. Good luck!

I'm a reasonably competent writer, so that shouldn't be a problem.

          Thanks for the help!
