Do you still use the old school sales page?

I'm wondering if any of you still use those old school type salespage, usually the headers have black letters in bold, with some key words highlighted in yellow and other keywords in red text.

Every clickbank marketer had that type of salespage. I wonder if everyone has been moving away from them or do you guys still have that type of sales letter-ish page?

There is a reason why that type of sales page is the 'standard.' The reason? It works. There's been a move to video only sales pages but considering the fact that you're risking a high bounce rate for a higher engagement rate, it might not be worth the gamble.

Yes, I know that many marketers still use this format, although there are fancier ones now available with platforms like Lead Pages which you pay a monthly fee for, and Optimize Press 2.0 has some more 'up to date' formats. It is maybe strange but the more simple the sales page, the higher the conversion.

Ususally when it comes to internet marketing the term old school isn't appropriate.

So i would say yes they are still used but they have lost their effectiveness over the years.

However it really depends on the copywriting imo.

(I'm an affiliate and not a vendor, so in my case I'm "using" sales pages "to send my subscriber-traffic to".)

I prefer to send my traffic to old-school-type sales pages, because they tend to convert better for me. Way better than video, anyway. (My subscribers, in 9 different niches, hate video and say so without even being asked. As do a lot of other people, it seems: http://www.warriorforum.com/off-topi...o-content.html )

I don't really like the headlines in bold, black print. (I much prefer dark blue or dark green, but I'll take black, which is at least a way of avoiding the worst-converting color, bright red, much beloved of people pretending to be copywriters, who have never really seen any split-testing results of anything).

I don't really like the key words being highlighted in yellow and red, either, but I don't let that stop me, and I don't actually know whether or not that "works" better.

Some people have been moving away from them.

And some of the people who have moved away from them have done so without proper split-testing.

As always, in internet marketing, lots of things quickly become self-perpetuating because so many people believe that "these things 'must' work better or so many other people wouldn't be using them."

As Alexa has pointed out, test to see what work best for you and your niche.

Everyone is different and niches are different. In my case, when I see an "old school" sales page like you described, it comes off as extremely outdated to me. With Wordpress, the switch to the new "flat design" and so on, I'm tuned into the nuances of design.

Very successful direct marketers often use copy-centric, "ugly" design offline. And it worked online too. However, I think as the Internet has come into it's own, the type of pages you're describing are outdated. And I've spent a LOT of money online for e-books, courses and business coaching.

For a starting point, look at what others are doing in your niche, then look at the uber successful people in IM are doing. This gives you a starting point before testing. Then test and adjust accordingly.

Pay attention to your own responses to different sales pages too. For me, the "outdated" feeling when seeing a sales page like you described is very subconscious. I probably wouldn't recognize it if I weren't tuned into it. How does a sales page like that make YOU feel if you were considering buying it? Is it congruent with the opt-in page you put up (via LeadPages for example)?

Whatever you do, make sure your sales page is congruent with your opt-in page.

And as Alexa pointed out, I, too, hate video-only sales pages. I'm in the middle of creating a campaign which includes a video on the sales page. But it's a complete sales page with complete text. The video is "extra."

    Hope that helps!
