Default This Warrior Is Correct - Put your best stuff On your own web property

I have been around here for a good while and have noticed one warrior in particular saying that you should put your own articles on your own websites. JayExtreme (Hope you don't mind) is absolutely right.

Now I think I know what I am doing with IM I have found that if I put my best articles (Content) on my own websites I can get traffic direct. People searching on the internet see my content listed and visit my site. No other website gets in the way. Very simple and straightforward.

I am now puzzled about why I would put content anywhere else.

I agree that back links from directories and other high PR sites have value but if I can get the online attention directly then that is where I would rather put it.

Think about this process alternative from 1 piece of content.

Option 1. Post article to my website.

Gets 10 clicks per day direct to my page. that's 3650 visitors per year from that content. I can convert that to sales no problem

Option 2. Post article to directories.

Gets 50 views per day yielding 6 clicks per day (on average clickthrough rate - I am being generous here unless you write great content). That's 2190 visitors per day.

What would you rather have 3650 direct visitors or 2190 indirect visitors?

Thanks JayExtreme for banging this drum over the last year. I finally get it and you are right.

Peace

Kenj

Would it be possible to have your cake, and eat it too?

Publish an article on Ezine...then after it's approved you rewrite it and make it into a blog post?

I'm only asking because I'm considering this route with a project I'll be involved with.

I would try it and test it. From my recent experience I am finding that the direct traffic is achievable and that is what I prefer. It arrives less cluttered.

Interesting.

It does seem like common sense...that you might end up with less "window shoppers" going the direct route.

This is a good thread.

I've been debating this myself and originally thought the directory blast approach was the best. But the people whose systems I bought that purported that to be the best method didn't really have web SITES with any content.

They just had sales PAGES for their product.

So in this respect, it's obviously a win for EZA and directory submissions.

However, after coming into contact with a few more experienced Warriors (like Jay), it became more and more obvious that the "authority site" model would work better for those of us like myself with sufficient enough web dev skills and who are planning for their SITE to be their own content hub. This means to basically drive the traffic to your site so you can control the outcome better.

The directory soliution, however, isn't one to completely disregard for those whose sites are more geared toward the site authority model. One strategy I was considering was to do longer articles on my own site, and then scale them down (to the proverbial "Cliff's notes" version) and then post THOSE to EZA and other dirs, for both the backlinks and the higher PR content.

What I'm really looking for is any info on anyone who has submitted articles to EZA and had them actually show up in publisher's e-zines, instead of just being a content directory of sorts.

Hopefully some of this will get you some ideas.

Anyone else care to chime in as to the validity of any of these ideas?

Thanks a lot to everyone who replies,

- Paul

What about posting the article to article directories, then your blog, then create a 2-slide PowerPoint Camtasia video of you reading the article and expounding on a few ideas and posting that video to TubeMogul and your blog as a video?
Thoughts?

This is a great thread, and by gosh I think MarketingHuddle has one heck of an idea! I'll be turning all my articles/FAQs/Tips/Tricks/you name it - into videos this weekend!

Fabulous idea!

I published an article last week to EZA and now it's no 9 on G with 375,000 results. The keyword its ranking for is a 3 word phrase. I checked the EZA url where my article is located and it has 778 backlinks. I don't know how that happened but hey I'll take it. Bottom line is there's no sales yet but something is moving in the right direction.

Hi MarketingHuddle

I have found video article marketing to be very successful in getting visitors. I haven't used camtasia in this way as yet. Most of mine are live to camera stuff or product photos with a commentary.

With videos you can use them anywhere you like without the worry of duplicating content. You also mark yourself out because fewer marketers will be bothered to do it.

I agree Ken... I have always tried to tell others post you high quality content to your own site / blog first. It is fine to post on sites but your high quality content should be reserved for your site.

Why try to make some other site an Authority site or help a site stay an authority site with your high quality content when you can get better results out of that high quality content by posting it on your own site / blog.

Always always always post to your own site / blog first.. Give the left overs to other sites..
