New to forum- Where to start?

Hi guys!

First time at the forum! I have some web design experience that I went to school for and I am not using.

I'd like to find out ways of going into business for myself.

If you had some experience with web design what would you do to make a living?

I am willing to put in the work to learn new skills as well.

So I'm sure you guys know so much about this so please help guide me in the right direction!

    If you are good at web design, build your portfolio, get on Behance or Dribbble to show off your work.
    You can either work on Freelancer, Elance, or PeoplePerHour.

    Or you can create your own Wordpress themes and sell it.
    Really depending on what type of web design you know.

      Thank you! I know HTML, CSS stylesheets, copy and paste javascripting, Graphic design. Took a flash course but don't have Flash anymore.

      However Ive had a hard time finding work in the past so I think I'm gonna have to work on improving my skills or something.

      If it's not any trouble could you give me a link to your PeoplePerHour Portfolio. It would be great to see what a successful persons portfolio looks like so it will give me a quality gauge when creating my own.

    In IM niche, just design for websites are not enough. You must build your list and build solid sales funnels.

    Lots of people make full time income just selling their services here.

    Why not create an ad in the "warriors for hire" section and see if you can get your first paying gig by tonight!

    Whats up PoolPlayer. Sell some services to offline business owners in your location for web design. Build a portfolio, make your marketing package/materials superior, and show them some of the sites that you can build for them. Then show them the math on how much more money they could be making if they used your services.

    You can do a variety of things, I'd say think about how often you want to work and essentially what kind.

    You can do tons of things, like make templates and sell to others. Make templates and sell the rights to have others sell them. You can make a membership site to help others make designs...you can jump on fiverr and offer a redesign concept and have it be a pic, then upsell on the actually coding and images for the design.

    You can team up with a coder who isn't too design savvy and piggy back off his leads and create a win win partnership.

    Just think outside the box, what do you have to offer? Who can use what you have to offer? How can they use what you have to offer and go from there!

    As a graphic designer myself i would suggest that you buy a domain and hosting and create your own graphic design company, the point here is you have to expertise in only one field to make it work for you because people always trust Experts, For example you can specialize at creating "Landing & Squeeze" page designs and build a repetition for your self in this area so people will prefer you over other general graphic designers that also do landing page design!

    And you can sell your services here at WF or advertise on Adwords like me!

    Design WordPress themes, design forum themes, design joomla themes as portfolio of your work. Go to WordPress forum, joomla forum, xenforo forum, SMF, mybb and introduce yourself. They have bunch of people there that are willing to pay to design their blogs and forum.

    I'm guessing you have zero marketing experience. Why not go check out your local Yelp.com listings for service related sites (plumbing, TV repair etc.). You will find many businesses using super ugly sites as their company/order portal. Contact them and tell them how a better site can improve their ROI. This will get you some high paying clients.

    As a web designer, you'll earn far more from local clients than you would from a client you meet online. Most offline businesses don't realize how cheaply they can get a website made online and will pay top dollar for that. Just mail your local business community announcing your web design services and you should be very busy.
