Before everyone says "to make money"

Here are some thoughts..

1) To increase visibility to whatever
2) To build a salable asset
3) To make money
4) To spread a message

To have a responsive list of customers that trust him and won't hesitate to buy the next product he recommends.

All the other purposes are just way-stations along the route toward paying money into the bank. That's always the "end goal", in business, Mike.

I guess on one level yes that is the end goal. If however I make that the holy grail then my practices could be somewhat unscrupulous and driven by money. I'm not talking fairy tale marketing here but the element of morality should be sizable shouldn't it?

No, the end goal of any business is to be profitable. That has nothing to do with being unethical. There is a big difference to being profitable and putting profits above all else.

I know that the purpose of being in business is to be profitable that goes without saying but I was pulling the layers away and exploring the goal of a marketer.. Sure we could apply the "turning a profit" statement as the ultimate goal but I would direct that answer more to the question of 'what is the end goal of being in business'? Then it would be a hand in glove fit.

Then you should have asked a better question. The answer to the
question you asked is... to earn a profit... period.

Here's a profound marketing lesson for you... the ones who are successful
aren't the ones with all the best answers. They're the ones with all the best
            questions.

Ask the right questions and you unlock whatever fortune you seek.

        Hi Mike,

Morality shouldn't be sizable, it should be total. A money-making scheme without morality is called a scam. Being moral and ethical in business always pays bigger dividends, and with less overall effort.

Making money honestly = moral. Making money dishonestly (through deceptive or criminal means) = immoral.

People can have other goals, like educating, contributing to the greater good, etc. But unless they are making money, they're not in business. They're a charity (and probably not one that will last very long to achieve those other things).

That being said, I think as business people we should always consider morality. I wonder how many IMers would continue to market moneymaking schemes that don't work, or diet supplements that make people sick, if they thought beyond the dollars.

        • My end goal? (emphasis on "MY")

A growing and expanding global ICT company with happy employees and happy company partners and happy subcontractors and happy suppliers and happy repeat B2B clients and B2C customers, all more than willing to spread a good word about our company's products and services to everyone they know, and with a set of corporate social responsibility programs that could benefit marginalized sectors of the global community, such as persons with disabilities around the world...

Yes, of course... and the end goal is still to earn a profit.

There is NO OTHER REASON to be in business.

To have a complete autopilot system that would keep making you money when you are gone on a year long vacation without having to worry about product creation, refunds, new customers and of course dissatisfied customers.

To create a web empire that runs with minimal effort. I know it is not easy but then you have to use outsourcing, automation etc. Yes there will be time and effort needed regularly to tweak things, to adpot new internet changes, to launch new products etc. but once the dust settles things should run on its own.

That way you can enjoy the dream life. Isn't that the dream that is sold on most of the products!!!

Knowing that you have helped your customers along the way, built trust within your marketplace.

The more people you can help achieve their desired outcome will result in giving your customers what they want while returning you money for the time put into helping them

To have a tribe of disciples who will follow your advice and trust your guidance.
    Good luck with that.

What should be the end goal as a marketer?
To be able to do pretty much whatever you want, whenever you want. In this world that takes money and depending on your "whatever you want" it could take a bunch.

Your end goal should probably to deliver the best products to anyone that you are marketing too. That way you will always have a very loyal fan base

The end goal is to help people solve a painful problem. Genuinely help them get what they want, and you'll have rabid customers for life. It's not about tools or toys but people.

Eventually, you want to be in a position where you can make a full time income (and preferably more), while helping others, whether it's a service you are providing or a product that helps other people doesn't really matter.

In other words, provide something valuable and get paid for it nicely.

    Pretty good points right above.

IMHO in the best scenario, it is:
    - to bring value to the customers
    - to take their money right off their pockets
    - to get recommended
