    What you need to remember is that this is Paypal you are dealing with and they are very fast to reverse charges if the seller doesn't fulfill their end of the deal. So if someone is out there, whether Nigeria or any country scamming and saying they will give services or products and then not delivering, then Paypal will be the one dealing with them. So I'm not too worried.

    Too bad PayPal doesn't allow Nigerians to receive or withdraw funds, just send them.

    Yesterday, I had a Nigerian prince email me saying I can collect $1.2 million if I just send him $2,000 as a disbursement fee.

    It would be much easier if I could just PayPal him the money.

    Agree with David. If they're opening their doors to them is because they know how to take control of the situation.

    Just in case: you can use "smart geo profits" (plugin, look for it on WF) if you don't want to take paypal orders from some countries etc (or if you want to do it through another payment processor - like clickbank etc - to minimize risks with your paypal account).

    I have just one Nigerian customer ( he bought my course through Google 2Checkout ) and only two Nigerian friends. So I can't be the judge as I never have been to Nigeria. But so far, I only have had good experience with them..

    So... I certainly think its a good thing.

    Scammers come in all shape, background, countries and sizes. We have to use common sense just like with offline world.

    If anyone would be kind enough to enlighten me: what is the difference between these two:

    1. Make $5000K in two days without any work or knowledge

    2. Long lost relative/ prince etc...sent you $million

    (The same, different countries ). My point exactly.

    Here is what I think is procent ratio of good-bad people in general ( anywhere in the world ).

    Generally most people are good. I would say about 80% are really nice, genuine, decent people. Then there is the 10% that can't decide are they good or bad. There is around 5% that are nasty and mean ( just because they are really stupid and think that being nasty makes them look smart ) . Around 4% that are knowingly, plainly bad. Finally I think only 1% are pure evil by their own decision.

    I think this kind of ratio work anywhere you go. Give or take few percents at any given time...

      One of my business partners lives in Nigeria and she's probably the most honest person I know,

      Several Drs I work with who originate from Nigeria would probably die of shock if it was thought they were some type of Internet scammer. One of them was a banker before he decided to go into the medical profession, though not sure if that's a good or bad thing :-)

    But really I know some Nigerian people who came to live in my country who went to college, earned degrees and now work hard.

    Of course there is a chance that some bad apples will use PayPal for their scams but at least PayPal has great buyer protection so there would not be much to worry about unless you send the money as a gift.

    I think this is a good thing. The majority of Nigerians are honest and should not have to be stigmatized and held back because of a small segment of scammers. Every country has its crooks and scam artists, including the U.S. But, we're not barred from Paypal or other businesses based on their actions. It's the same with Nigeria. I've personally been friends with some good Nigerian people.

    As with all online business, take appropriate precautions when necessary.

    they have a platform to do so? Why just think about Nigerians
    buying from other countries?

      Not sure how race got brought in, but when people talk about scam, they mean the country. There are good people in every country, but laws in that country determines the amount of scams that comes out of there.

      China has good people, but that doesn't mean I will be trying to copyright anything over there, since their copyright law is pretty much non-existent. Scams are rampant in Nigeria, because they don't have the laws and infrastructure in place to enforce those laws, so naturally people try not to do business there. Has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with the laws there.

      There are scams here in the U.S, but not as bad as in Nigeria, because they will throw your ass in jail. Try and pick up some money at Western Union here in the U.S, and they'll be agents waiting there to slap the cuffs on you. In Nigeria, they don't have the man power or resources to do that, so people scam with impunity.

        I have no problem with it. In regards to scams I use common sense. If I get an email offering me millions of dollars of I click on the link the only click I am doing is delete. I think most of us are that way.

        I have been very happy with PayPal for over 10 years and what they do to grow their business is fine with me, especially when it does not affect me directly.

          So PayPal is making mistake for opening shop in Nigeria? really? pal pay is wiser than you guys. I know how much they were leaving on the table for not doing business in Nigeria. Ask aliexpress.com and alibaba.com they making a killing from Nigerians. Yet the sites and more were not scammed.
          You should be arrested if you send some $2000 to get $1,600,000. Are you born fool? You are a scammer, granted there some bad egg among good ones. That shouldn't be licence to brand anything Nigeria as scam. The Nigeria anti-scam agency, EFCC is working tirelessly to flush out the bad eggs that have earned us this tagged 'scammers'. When would know about the arrest and prosecution of scammers by EFCC. CNN and your media won't report it, IT BECAUSE IS NOT A BAD NEWS.

      That article is just that, an article. Those stats are inaccurate, and are based on IP's. The first thing a scammer does, is change his ip, and the most popular one is one from the U.S.

      Some of you guys are missing the point, nobody is saying Nigerians are bad people. It's just hard to prosecute scammers in that country, because they just don't have the resources and man power to do so.

      I'm willing to bet that most Nigerians are great people, but those that are scammers, scam with impunity pretty much. When Paypal looks to do business with a country, they don't look at race or color of the skin. They look for laws, and a governments willingness to enforce those laws.

      It takes alot of balls to use Western Union as a payment processor for scams, unless you can do it without worrying about going to jail. Here in the U.S, it only takes an idiot, because he is going to jail, and so is everybody else that is involved.

      The United States has more of it's people imprisoned than any other country in the world, and that is a big deterrent. If Americans could walk into a Western Union 4-5 times a day to pick up $2,000 they've scammed, then we wouldn't be talking about Nigeria, United States would be the scam capital.

    I am not happy I got in late into this discussion. For those who doesn't want to do business with Nigerians, or have any connection with us. It's a choice. What I believe is that there's nowhere in the world that we don't have scammers. These law breakers are everywhere.

    The most annoying part is that it is preventing some of us that has genuine intention to do real business online to use Paypal completely. As it is now, paypal only allows we Nigerians to purchase from sites that sell stuffs. We can't even paypal individuals money or receive money.

    And for those that doesn't want us as Nigerians, I have a suggestion for you. Maybe you should place a banner on your site that anybody from this part of the world should not make a purchase from your website. It will go a long way.

    And for those who still believe in us. Thanks. We are still hopeful that Paypal opens all it's services to we Nigerians. Seriously, running an online business from this part of the world does not come easy.

        I see you are clueless, What is the meaning of "some of Worlds top scammers going head -to-head."? Like only africa is the place where scamming is taking place. My point is that, as much as there are scammers in africa, there are psychos abroad that goes to the store and shoot people for no good reason.

        You should talk based on what you know. I am a Nigerian and all my life i have faced IM realities. Now i can boldly stand that i make $x,xxx as an amazon affiliates because i fought years to learn and get where i am. What part of the world are there no scammers? Whites dont scam? If you are going to analyze anything be factual about your points and not saying some other things. For your information, it all depend on personalities

        Most scammers here are not even aware of how to use paypal and you should know you cant scam someone and go easily with paypal. Their verification and strong buyers protection is a real good stand that paypal can work anywhere in the world.

    I know a lot of scams originate in Nigeria, but I've done business with several Nigerians and things worked out perfectly. The payments were good and the only problem was that Nigerian customs can take a while to release the packages to the buyer. I was shipping them merchandise to supply their stores.
