Can A Squeeze Page Rank #1

For competitive terms.

If you take a look at *most* sites that rank #1 they are always content rich sites.

Could a simple squeeze page with

HEADLINE

OPT-IN BOX

    I have a squeeze page ranking on the front page, at least, for a competitive keyword right now. But it also has a blog in the "blog" directory that's linked to from the front page. So I don't know if that counts...

    Doubtful. Search engine look a lot at bounce rate, where or not the visitor they send you comes back to the search engine, and time on site now, and I don't think a squeeze page could have good enough stats to keep its rankings. Its stats would be very low in these areas compared to a content rich site, which is really what search engines want to rank highly as they want to satisfy their users, and that's what users are satisfied by most.

    Its better to just build your squeeze pages out with wordpress in my opinion. Have About, Contact Us, Privacy Policy, and 5 short blog posts. I've found that sites with more than one page hold their rankings much better.
