Just download "Audio/Video to exe" and convert any video format to any video format and most importantly, its completely free.

Firgot the name, but there is a website that lets you download from youtube directly in avi format...

Just wondering why would you like to download youtube videos?

Just do a search for "convert youtube videos". There are websites that will allow you to choose the format you want a particular video in and automatically convert it. When it's done, the sites give you a link to download the video or audio file.

If you just want to save a Youtube video, there are plugins you can download for Firefox which are very easy to use.

An updat for those that were wondering!

This is how I was able to do it:

Download the FLV file using the Firefox, download helper plugin
- Put it on the desktop
- Use the Media Convert - free and on line - convert and split sound, ringtones, images, docs - MP3 WMV 3GP AMR FLV SWF AMV MOV WMA AVI MPG MP4 DivX MPEG4 iPOD PSP OGG WMA AAC MP4 MPC MMF QCP KAR MIDI REALAUDIO FLAC JPG PSD DOC PDF RTF TXT ODG ODP ODS ODT SXW to convert the file into
the .AVI format
(inside media-convert select:
* Input format: .FLV
* Outputformat: Windows / WMV

Don't change any other parameters or the file will become corrupt)

- Click OK to convert

Voila!

P.S: Keep in mind that I am on XP. The main point of this was to be able to modify
these files in Windows Movie Maker
