Fear of writing an ebook

Hello,

For the longest time I have been getting this nagging feeling to start writing a series of short ebooks on subjects that people search for. I keep hearing, "go ahead and do it", and I keep saying I'll waste my time and make $0.

If you really believe that, it will almost undoubtedly become your experience. You'd be better placed believing the opposite, I think.

I don't actually know a medical name for it, but I propose "digitobiblioscriptophobia": it's derived partly from Greek and partly from Latin, just like the word "Television" and some others.

Go ahead and do your ebook. If it sells really well you'll be happy. If it only sells a few copies, at least you got the experience of doing it and, trust me, that's going to make all the difference.

If it doesn't sell at all, you can always use it as a lead magnet to build a list or try selling it as PLR. If you think about it, you really can't lose.

      Do it!

Drop your inhibitions and go for it. What is the worst case scenario - you will be in no worse than what you currently are. And the upside could be huge. So go for it!!

I actually published a mystery/thriller long before I ever heard of internet marketing back in December, 2011. It only sold a handful of copies. Slow sales were a let down, but I've since been asked when I'm writing more from the handful that purchased it. They've since shared it with friends and I've been renewed.

My point here is - if you want to do something - just do it. Especially with writing ebooks. Don't over analyze and think you know exactly how it will work out. Just go for it. Worst case scenario? You sell zero and learn how to do something new. Best case scenario, well I think you already have that in mind...

In the words of Marianne Williamson, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us."

Don't let fear run the show. Go for it.

The only people who succeed are the one's who are taking action.

And fear is never a good thing, what is there actually to be afraid about? You don't have to be a best selling author to make some good money by writing ebooks. Many people (myself included) even write ebooks while English is not their first language.

All that matters is that your ebook solves a specific problem, if that's the case then you can sell it.

I disagree with on that statement. Most information that are sold on clickbank and even on this forum are digital downloads. So, why would you say there are no buyers for ebooks. Some people value their time, and as such would go for a paid products, so far it fulfils their needs.

People search because they are looking for more information on a specific problem. And if you can fill that gap, there's an opportunity for you to make moolah.

      Goodluck

You never know until you try!

Take a look at some of the WSO's being sold...some are awful but still sell like hotcakes.

Put your foot down, and write something! You won't always get it right the first time, but it takes persistence and a positive attitude.

I'm actually releasing my own product soon that addresses things like fear and how to get past all that in product creation.

There is a couple of ways you can see this :

    1. Zig Ziglar said : Help enough people get what they want and you can have anything you want. So start writing and focusing on solving the problem, helping other people and go from a mindset of "I have to make money with this report" to "how can I help people with this report". Focus on the people and the solutions your ebooks can offer them and not the "how much money I can I make from this". The difference in attitude will show in your report and the money will flow automatically.

    2. Say your first ebook or first couple of ebooks are duds, then take them as "lessons learned". It's the school money you may have to pay to get to the winning ebook. Not every book you write is going to be a winner, you are not going to hit a home run every time you bat, but you have to start batting or you will never have a chance of hitting a home run either. Without starting you are not even in the game and you will definitely make $0 in anycase.

So write your first book, make it good, make it useful, write it because you want to help people and the money will follow. If it does not "work' you have lost nothing, in fact you gained experience and learned some lessons along the way.

What is the worse that could happen if you publish it? Your leg gonna fall off? Someone close to you is going to die? If NO to both of these questions then you have no reason NOT to write your ebook!

  • I actually just finished my first ebook today, it was an excellent learning experience and I generally enjoying writing my content, and especially the design of it.

my advice is just just start it, don't rush enjoy the process, you'll be amazed how easy it is to come up with more content to add into it once you start

what exactly is putting you off from starting?

I like Stephan's advice... I'm a big believer in helping other people. If you start with the idea of making money - it's far more difficult to do so... if you start with the concept of using your knowledge to help others, the money will come.

And practice makes perfect... I rather doubt if the first books written by any of my favorite authors were readable...

Ditto with ebooks... you learn only by doing. I recently just did a revision on an ebook I wrote - and STILL need to completely redo it - I know now so much more about doing a good ebook than I knew when I started.

So I say... go for it!

The best thing to do one day is just sit down and start writing. One day I sat down and did not get up for a couple of hours. When I stopped writing I noticed I had a complete eBook written. It was easier than I thought it would be. The main thing to do is just start to write

Forget about the fear. Try it first and see what you get. Think of it this way....see if that fear is real. Verify the truth for yourself. What's the worst that could happen? That you waste a couple hundred hours of your time? Believe me, that's going to be the case for ANYTHING that you do.

What really worked for me when I first started was to simply have an idea of what I wanted to write, and just make myself write one paragraph.

Before I knew it I realized I wanted to write more and it would just come right out of me.

A lot of us are paralyzed or stopped by our fears. The best way to work through your fears is to take massive action. Also, someone mentioned having a different attitude. Work on your mindset and just do it.

Just start, screw it just do it. I've got fear too, I am kid working on new things and I've also failed several time and once almost "succeed" (this was when I sold my first ebook) but failed because I forget to backup my database, files and I was uncareful and I deleted some files, so whole site disappeared . I wasn't even angry from now on I am doing every single back-up for my site.

"Behind every fear is a person you want to be. Fear is self-imposed, meaning it doesn't exist. You create it. You can destroy it too. You face your fears and become the person you want to be. You run from your fears, you're not living. You are alive but you not dig in the freedom. You are not running the day, the day is running you. We all fall down in life. The question is: Who get's back up?"

Make a commitment to write for an hour a day until you finish your first ebook. The confidence you gain from writing that first ebook will help you write the others.

I'm currently writing a couple of e-books because I think that there is a slight gap in the market for what I am writing. Although I might not make one sale and spend a lot time on them I feel the possible advantages outweigh the possible disadvantages, so I am just going for it.

The book you never write will never make anything. The site you never set up will never sell.

I wanted to write an ebook, so I did. It didn't sell even through Clickbank. The website is still up for the original pdf version. When Kindle became popular I converted it and put it on Amazon and CreateSpace where it's been for many years. I think it's maybe sold 6 or 7 copies.

That hasn't stopped me writing more and more and more, learning as I'm going and gradually creeping up in earnings and reputation.

Don't let the fear of failure stop you in your tracks. Doing nothing, gains you nothing.

    Regards,

    Steven Lucas

change the way you think. start it, say ''okay , i will try and it will succeed.'' then start promoting it with email marketing sending a short preview , contact people that would like to give you the chance etc

Just write it and make it something you're proud of. That way if you make no sales at least you helped the world. If you get zero sales (highly unlikely) just give it away because it's awesome. Either way, write for yourself and the betterment of others and you'll sell some. It's (usually) when people write ONLY to make money that bad books are written. Forget the money - help us with your knowledge.

It is true that the chance of making a lot of money is near zero. However, an e-book that is short and to the point, provides many more hidden benefits for you. For example:

    1. links to your web site
    2. traffic from interested buyers
    3. something to give as a free gift
    4. a platform to sell your product or service
    5. oh yes, and this one is very important - more exposure.

What do you define 'a lot of money'? Everyone has completely different ideas of a lot of money is.
