Question about using images for ohters products.

Lets say I think Bobs Beer Mug (silly example) is a great product I want to put on my website, not even as an affiliate or as a referral, just because I genuinely think it is a great product and want to link out to it on my website.

Would I run into any trouble if I took an image of his product on his website, and used that image on my website in order to link to his website?

I many just be being to careful here, but I would like to know.

As long as you dont claim to be to your own, and give credit with a link back to his site then you should have no issues.

Best way to make sure is to contact the image owner and ask if you are allowed to use it.

Please excuse the observation that the naivety of this misguided advice is scary!

You might do - you might not. It's actually relatively common: there's a large number of threads in this forum started off by people who have done exactly that and been surprised/shocked/disappointed to learn that it wasn't ok!

The solution is dead easy: just ask for Bob's permission.

    Whenever, and in whatever context
, you publish a photo of which you don't yourself own the copyright, ask for the permission (unless expressly waived) of the person who does own the copyright.
