If I could TEACH innovation, would you want to learn it?

Hi Warriors,

Many people think being innovative is a latent 'talent'.
(Either you have it, or you don't.)

I believe it can be taught.

A few years ago, a friend and I started a website for inventors and innovators (but not discounting others, like artists) where they could buy others or sell their own un-protected ideas.

Anyway, for various reasons (lack of promotion and marketing know-how) this site never 'took-off' and now I've even lost my domain name.
But I digress...

As part of this website I wrote a small guide called "The Secret To Innovation" in which I taught people how to develop the mindset to continually innovate - no matter what their field was.

I have nothing to contribute to this forum, yet, in the form of IM specifically, but am curious if you Warriors would be interested in learning how to Innovate?

I think being innovative is important in ALL fields.
If you come up with new ways of doing things you will be ahead of your competition.
If you come up with brand new concepts/products/marketing techniques etc etc, again, you will be way ahead of the competition.

So, would you guys be interested?

--------------------------------------------------------

Next question:

As a total IM newbie, I have no idea how I should go about this, if in fact, there is an interest.
  • Do I give it to you guys for free (as your advice here has been helping me)?
  • Do I give it for free as an e-mail gathering opt-in excercise to help me start on my IM adventure?
  • Do I sell it? (If I sold it, i would sell it cheaply - Say $5.-)
--------------------------------------------------------------

Any and all feedback wellcome

I've always had quite a creative mind.

I also believe that innovative thinking can be groomed and taught.

Lots of folks should be interested in this subject although you really don't need a creative bone in your body to become a big success with an online business - but it definitely won't hurt and can only help.

I think there would be a decent amount of interest around here in something like that. Most people here want to learn new things, and innovation can clearly help your business.

    Should you charge for it?

That depends on how good it is

I'd suggest offering it on the forum free for 10 members, just to get some feedback.

That way, you can get some sensible advice on which path to take from people that have actually seen the product.

Thanks for the feedback, no one else seems to have even spotted my question *L*
The more I think about it the more I figure I'll just share it free of charge.
I'm in financial poo-poo at the moment but I'm inclined to share here as so many have shared so much that I'm learning from

    Great idea scattermouse!

.....and this wouldn't be the place to offer it would it? It should be on the WSO section right?

*L* Keep thinking of more questions: Is there any problem with giving out eBooks as MS Word documents? (I ask because everyone uses pdf)

Nope, don't think there's a problem offering it in this section as long as you just want feedback, and you're not trying to profit by your post.

Most people do prefer pdf format, but you can convert it for free. I think the software's called primo pdf or something like that.

Before deciding to work online full time I was an Organizational Development consultant at a large state hospital. One of the courses in my studies focused on innovations and one of the books used in the class was "Diffusion Of Innovations" by Everett M. Rogers.

I think you would find this book very interesting.

I guess to get it started maybe start it off as a dollar, to join this group or mastermind just to see if people will commit that much atleast. Anyways im interested and would we search for problems all over the web in all niches. And I guess the more problems we found, the more we could put our minds together and create an solution/ product for that problem.

Moreover, all your ideas are good. I would say take action on all but one at a time and test and tweak all through and see what converts better.

I would get this as a $1 WSO for sure. And then I'd be on your mailing list. And I would see anything else you had to offer...

Perfect for: "Do I give it for free as an e-mail gathering opt-in excercise to help me start on my IM adventure?"

Of course there are a large number of people wanting to become more innovative and creative.

I am thinking here about courses by Michael Vance, the training at Disney University, the books by Dr. Roger Van Oech.

I think you may have a good list-builder ebook.

I'd definitely join your list if you decided to
teach this. You can never stop learning.

    I'm currently reading John C. Maxwell's
"Thinking For A Change" which gives you
a step by step approach to becoming a
    a good thinker.

  • I'd definitely be interested... as an artist and a warrior It is easy to get into a formulatic process that you can unconsciously become complacent with, and in the end it could be hindering your business or art or whatever personal endeavor you may be working on.

By defining the thought process that goes behind innovating and going against the grain in your niche or your art, or whatever your particular game is, you can have your eyes opened to new techniques, and then learn how to make your own techniques. Having this all explained and documented would be great for warriors new and old.

What do you have to lose? What do you have to gain? Maybe you will come up with some innovations of your own in the process.... Good luck!

      I'm interested.

      My recommendation:

Give it away for free as a list builder on a new domain innovation related (and respect that list, don't try to milk it right away; send only wen you have something of real value innovation related to offer). Do not give it away here, or on any forum. Here put that domain in your sig and do an announcement on a new thread. Also PM everyone who showed interest in this thread pointing them to the new one.

    Hi again guys n gals!

I haven't got as much time as I hoped, so I'll put it up now, even though the site isn't done yet.

    Just go to www.getwealthystupid.com/innovation.html

Since I find myself unable to afford a much needed trip to the dentist, I made it $7.-
(Also, I have no idea yet, how to build a list - next step is to learn all about that stuff - Aweber, auto mailing etc... all that stuff)

If you guys think it's worth more, I can re-consider the price later.

Outside of knowing relevant facts, what is on the market, and considering that new things can maybe be created, what can you do to "teach innovation"? OOOPS! Did I spell out your whole course?

In the 70s, for example, people decided that it might be nice to bypass the digestive tract altogether in some cases, found out about DMSO and, before you knew it, DMSO ended up ALL OVER! They later found it could cause liver problems, and took it off the market. Obviously, they brought it back.

HECK, I am taking a product to prevent strokes that was created because a guy tried to commit suicide with a product used to cause rats to bleed to death because some rancher found his cows had bleeding problems because they pigged out on clover! So I'm taking rat poison to save my life. WEIRD!

No idea why you're being condescending, what I've written in "The Secret To Innovation" took me several years to put together from thinking about the process' that I used when inventing.

It's really quite good, I'm happy with it, I'm proud of it and I think it will help anyone in any field think creatively, come up with new 'out of the box' innovations.

Even the checklist at the end is a valuable tool to keep using daily in your ventures.

I'm not here to rip anyone off, I made it only $7 because this community is really helping me and I want to help them.

What I'd really like, is for people to get it, apply it to whatever field they are in and get back to me with what they thought and how it helped them.

      Peace
