Niche marketing in a NON IM niche

Hi,

I have been a warrior member for many years, however I have been more of a reader than a poster.

Anyway, the reason for this message is to ask the opinions of other warriors.

I have been finding a lot of success with my online marketing and feel I can use my experience to help others.

I am considering making a product that will show you how to build a niche website from scratch.

The site I am going to build is going to be in a real niche, in the computer music production market. (I am not going to reveal this niche at this point in time.)

It is going to be a combination of being a video authority website, coupled with squeeze page, split testing and tracking, how to use email marketing, and will also feature a blog.

I will be showing how I set up tools to provide daily updated curated content, from youtube and other video sites, so the video site is always being updated.

I will also be producing original content for the niche and creating Youtube tutorials in the niche.

I will also be blogging on the niche and showing how to manage an email list to give the subscribers maximum value.

I will also show all the monetisation models I will be implementing.

It will show the tools I use, I will be providing a project management mind map that I have created that you can use to plan and execute your own niche authority site.

The course will be a mixture of short concise, step by step videos showing how I set everything up, mixed with longer videos that will address each area as we reach it.

I have a communication degree and family members who are psychologists and I will go into personal mindset, NLP, copywriting, persuasion.

I want to leave no stone unturned.

It is my hope that people will use my example to start their own unique niche site.

I plan on being fully transparent, letting everyone see the niche, the keyword selection process, (i'm not worried if other people enter the market as the market is in a specialised field. I fully expect people will copy the niche, but those people will never realise the full benefit of the course).

I will also be supplying copywriting templates that can be modified to your own niche and will provide as much done for you stuff as possible.

I feel that there is a need for a course that takes people through the entire process of planning and executing a project, and will be providing screen capture videos showing exactly how I do everything.

I'm hoping to get comments from fellow warriors, to see if there would be any interest in this type of all encompassing product.

Lots of the worlds well known marketers, such as Vishen Lakhiani for example, got their start in the online marketing world by building sites in obscure markets. (Vishen's niche was "remote viewing" you should look on youtube for the video called "The theory of awesomeness How to live in the ultimate state of human existence" and you will hear how his career started.)

I want to show the average person how they can enter a non IM niche and actually make money and grow their own list.

If I decide to make this course, I will be coming to the warrior forum to find a group of 10-20 beta testers.

These people will be party to the process and actually follow along in real time, seeing things as they happen and experiencing the highs and lows as they happen.

The course itself will not be released to the public until I have completed it, but the beta testers will be there as it happens.

I plan on doing a warrior special offer once the course is completed so I thought I'd ask the people here what they think about what I am writing.

I am not actively looking for beta testers just now, again, when that happens I will pay to advertise for beta testers here.

The only pre-requisite for beta testers will be that they have their own niche in mind and are ready to take action and work along side me, so we can progress together.

Basically I want to know if there would be a demand for this type of product, and to hear what your frustrations are.

So, what do you think?

NOTE. please don't ask to be a beta tester just now, I will go about things properly at the right time, in line with the warrior forum rules.

Thanks for your time and feedback

Great idea! I'm sure there are a lot of newbie Internet marketers seeking help with starting their first niche websites and a good number of them do discover and spend time on the Warrior Forum, so there's a market for your course here.

Sounds like a good idea for newbies who want to learn the important fundamentals - and the experienced who want to expand in the offline market with proven tips.

Sounds like you've given it a lot of thought.

      My only question is ...
      • Have you researched the competion or your closest competition, what's the competitive landscape look like for you?
      • What do you have or do that separates you from the competition?
You listed quite a bit. So, if we were in an elevator and my floor is coming up in 10 seconds, what would you say when I asked you what you do. Ready, set, go!

I have been researching competition for at least a few years, firstly as a consumer of this type of product, and more recently with a view to releasing the product. I know the market is large. And I definitely know there is a space for quality information. I have techniques and strategies that I have honed over many years online, compared to lots of products where the people selling have clearly never put their "course" into practice before dreaming it up. I also have a clear outline of my perfect ideal customer. My "Bob" if you are a follower of Frank Kern's work.

As for what separates me from my competition, I'm not going to go right into that here, but I have got this covered big time. That's all I'm going to say.

And the 10 second elevator pitch will come later once I am actually ready to go live and need to be able to tell people that.

Good points, and definitely worth reading. thankyou.

      Thanks for your comment.
My target customer is not going to be brand new "newbies". I will be aiming my marketing at people who have been trying to breakthrough into marketing online. People who have likely tried dozens of things but never been able to stick to just one.

This is exactly where I was a few years ago. Had varying success at many different things, all very modest successes, but rather than stopping when I found something that worked and scaling up, instead I kept moving on and on and on to the next thing.

I do not believe that the typical newbie has the strength of character, and the basic marketing/website building education needed to see this through.

I will be appealing to people who now how to post a Youtube video, know the basics about SEO, people who have built a website etc.

I am aiming for people who have matured past the entitlement mindset, they have been through the mill, and just need some good teaching, guidance, strategy and focus, as well as plenty of encouragement and learning.

Basically, I will be making a big deal out of how running a large niche website has to become a lifestyle. Something that you will do for years on end. I will be trying to instill fresh habits into my students and really challenging them to perform. I will be encouraging them to start thinking in the long term.

The typical newbie still needs to get all the bull and nonsense out of their system. They need to find out for themselves that "get rich quick" only exists as a marketing tactic designed to part fools from their money.

YES, the course will be able to be taken by newbies, but I am not aiming at the brand new(bie) market.

      Thanks for your comments

This could be successful. It sounds like you've put a lot of thought into it. There are a couple of things. One is the use of the term, authority site. The MMO crowd has recently latched on to this one and in that realm it has taken on a different meaning than its actual meaning. I won't go into the distinctions, just be aware that if you're going after an intermediate or even an advanced market group they may take issue with the MMO version of authority site. The same thing goes for content curation. For some marketers this simply means scraping content from anywhere without permission and using it.

I bring this up because the one dimensional definitions of these terms will not sit well with serious marketers and your credibility will likely suffer if you misuse the terminology.

You don't come across as the typical hit and run marketer as your plan is sound and you know what you want to do. I think one of the challenges you'll need to face is deciding who this project will appeal to. I mean, do you expect your customers (I'm assuming you're going to want to sell the finished product as a course) to be looking for a quick hit method that cuts corners by using dirty little secrets, Ninja strategies and all the rest of MMO hypey buzzwords. Or are you targeting people that actually understand that marketing stuff online is a business and not a get rich quick scheme?

Thanks for the heads up of the bastar*isation of the the term "authority site".
I was not aware of this. However, when the product is readythere will be zero confusion by what I am meaning by it, because I will have a site running that people can look at for themselves.

The point about content curation. Undoubtedly one of the worlds most influential news site, in terms of ability to direct traffic, has to be the Drudge Report. Which is 100% curated. Again, I thank you for your insight into this. I know that "scraping" content and automation has had a bad rep due to spammers and abuse, but curated content done correctly, referencing the source, is very powerful and totally ethical.

I will work on defining EXACTLY what I mean with these areas. To be honest, the launch sequence will likely cover these areas in great detail. I'm going for upfront transparency, where the most intelligent/experienced marketers will be able to copy my ideas after watching the free content, without having to buy my product. That's how I will be rolling, so these things will be no concern.

As for the last section of your comment, no, I'm not trying to do a hit and run, fleece people or anything like that. I'll be putting my face to my product, and likely going to be starting a mastermind off the back of it. So that answers that question.

Oh, and the get rich quick brigade will definitely NOT buy my course, because my copy will turn them off quicker than finding out that the woman you just took home from the club.....is actually a man! (Not that I have anything against men dressing as women but as I'm a heterosexual man, you get the point.)

I have no time for losers with an "entitlement" mindset. These losers would be as well giving up and living on benefits. I will be providing a lot of "done for you" things, but there will be no doubt that HARD work will be required. I will provide education and strategies and a framework to make carrying out the work a lot easier than it would be just attacking it willy nilly. Based upon the things I have learned that have helped me personally achieve far more in shorter spaces of time. (Bringing in ideas I have learned from many different people, eg Tony Schwartz and his ideas on peak performance etc.)

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate them. Good points to consider.
