Default Do I actually need to reserve rights for my digital products?

Hello warriors,

I'm working on a couple of reports and was wondering If I can simply put the "Copyright Reserved" notice in the report or there's an actual process to be allowed to do so?

I'm not in the US. I've seen even the shortest reports carry the rights reserved message on them.

What do you guys do?

Thanks a lot.

Regards.

You better reserve rights for your products.

Otherwise some spammers will post links for your products on Rapidshare,Megaupload etc. so that anybody can get it free.

I would talk to maybe legalzoom since they could probably give you a good answer and for cheap. Not sure outside the US.

IANAL, but to be sure you should check with your country's version of the US Copyright office.

Most countries are signatories to various international treaties, like the Bourne Convention, which basically says a work is copyrighted the moment it is placed in a tangible form. BUT there are no world wide registration agency.

However, you can register a copyright in the US even if you are not a US citizen. This will give you legal rights in the US to your copy. While not required, a copyright registration provides concrete proof you're the owner of the work, and allows you to seek additional damages if you take someone to court for infringement.

Also, you can now register a copyright online - check out this link for more information:

U.S. Copyright Office - Online Services (eCO: Electronic Copyright Office)

Again, IANAL, so you should seek competent advice, but for something like $45US you can get a copyright registration online - less than what many warriors pay for an ebook cover.

good luck!

best,
